INTRODUCTION

As the 21st century emerges, people begin to embrace the trend of Korean culture. Today,

Korean culture is seen everywhere, fashion trend, music and other Korean trends are being

accepted our society today, Korean drama series is embraced by Filipino especially, the

teenagers. Korean culture is being accepted and seen anywhere like in television, magazines, and

many other media intermediaries made easily with the advance technology and the Internet.

These drama series introduced to the world the richness of the Korean culture, many people

adapted some of Korean lifestyle like, bowing to the person to show respect, greetings, honorific

and other Korean customs.

During the mid-2000’s Asianovelas are introduced in the Philippines, conquering

the heart of Filipinos and a great example of Asianovela that left a great impact in the Philippine

media history is the Meteor Garden, a Taiwanese drama series that Filipinos embraced it

wholeheartedly. Korean drama series are being shown in the national television but it does not

receive a popularity and recognition but, when the Korean drama series, “Boys Over Flowers”

that aired in 2008 starring Lee Min Ho known as “Gu Jun Pyo” in the series. It is a remake of the

original Japanese manga “Hana Yori Dango” and was adapted by the Taiwanese and known as

“Meteor Garden”, and “Boys Over Flowers” as the Korean adaptation. It is the start of the

Korean influence in the Philippines and it is the easy and instant way to promote their culture

that is being adapted by the millennial nowadays.

A great number of millennial got fond of watching Korean drama series. Korean

personalities have influenced different aspects of an individual who is currently hooked up with

these. The study will show how Korean drama series affect the academic performance.

This contains the interpretations, analysis and presentation of the gathered data in which,

the support and proofs of the study about the effects of watching Korean drama series to the

students.

respondents. In their gender profile, there are 18 or 60% of male students while, 12 or 40% were

female. In the gender profile, from 16 to 18 years old, there are 2 or 7% of 16 year old students,

24 or 80% of 17 year old students and 4 or 13% of 18 year old students. Evidently, the majority

of the students are male and the age is 17 years old.
