Airplane

Definition: The airplane is a heavier-than-air aircraft kept aloft by the upward thrust
exerted by the passing air over its fixed wings and is driven by propellers or jet propulsion.

Operation: The aircraft is able to fly due to aerodynamic force. This upward force is
produced due to the design of the fixed wings and their movement through the air. This
force is also known as uplift force (force exerted on a specific body that is flying in a
perpendicular direction through a fluid).
The uplift force is a result of the pressure differential caused by air flowing over the upper
and lower wing surfaces along the airfoil.

Characteristics: Not all airplanes are identical in terms of structure, but they do share
common elements. All fixed wing aircraft have wings that include ailerons that cause the
plane to turn and flaps to increase lift at reduced speed, horizontal stabilizers that include
elevators that cause the plane to go up and down and vertical stabilizer that includes a
rudder that yaw the place left and right.

Types of airplane: There are several classifications of airplanes; the most relevant are

civil airplanes and military airplanes.
 Civil airplane: primarily used for cargo and passenger transportation, medical
purposes, fire fighting or other natural disasters and pilot training. The passenger
aircraft is the type most popular type of aircraft in the world.
 Military airplane: primarily used for the different activities and situations required in the
military, such as specialized freight transport of troops, soldiers, fighters, flight
replenishments, and other activities.
