Reflection: Zero Gravity

After completing this assignment I have a completely different view on how math affects

our day to day. I will never say “I will never use that” because to me that is not true anymore. It

may not be as a big scale as flighting an airplane or launching a rocket, but math is still useful in

our everyday life’s. In this project we were able to take the concepts we have learned and with

minimal information use it to form a system of equations, find the variables we needed, and out

them together to create a quadratic function. This allowed us to graph the trajectory and show us

what the highest point was.

Quadratic functions play an important role in figuring all this information out. Quadratic

functions can be used not only on planes but rocket launchings to space and more simple things

like measuring someone’s temperature at its highest or how high and when a ball will reach the

floor. This project opened my eyes to show me that Math can be applied to nearly anything we

do. However, I still think that math or complicated math like quadradic functions only serve a

purpose to someone working in a field that requires it. A normal person can also figure it out but

there is no benefit other then finding information. People in specialist fields use this information

to create an outcome or product.
