Chapter 7

           UNDERSTANDING RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND DESIGN

End of Chapter Questions

1.Details the distinction between research methods and research techniques.

Research method is a method which we conduct research into a subject or a topic. It
involves the experiments,  test and survey. While the research techniques is involved
in research method. It is the strategies or techniques that are used in a research
methods. It includes interactional recordings,  possible use of tape recorders and
photographic techniques.

2.Explain why the methodological framework emerges from the conceptual

framework.

The conceptual frameworks direct directs the other framework in order to accomplish
the research paper. The methodological framework emerges from the conceptual
framework to improve the research. The methodological is capable of supporting the
study.

3.Explain the importance of having an established conceptual framework before

selecting research methodology.

The importance of having an established conceptual framework before selecting

research methodology because it will serve as a guide in preparing the written report
of the research. It help us also to translate portion of an abstract theory into testable
hypotheses involving specific variables. It is also important process used to make
sense of related observations.

4.Identify and elaborate at least eight research methodologies.

There are several research methodologies. Some of these are: Survey, Case Study,
Ethnographic, Grounded theory, Phenomenology, Narrative research, Discourse
analysis and Feminist analysis.

In Survey research, we gathered information in the form of questionnaires it’s either

oral or written. In this method, to obtain the data we conduct an interview through
one-on-one or via online chat. The information gathered in survey research are in the
form of beliefs, opinions and emotions of a particular group of people or population
sample. The types of surveys that are commonly used are consisting of multiple-
choice questionnaire, opinions and polls.

Case study a process of research which detailed consideration is given to the

development of a particular person, group or situation over period of time. This
method is often used in exploratory research.  It can help us also to generate new
ideas.

Ethnographic is a study of a particular human society. It is used not only to study the
unfamiliar culture but also to studies specific communities.

Grounded theory is involves the collection and analysis of the data. Most of the
ground theory researches include a short portion or do not include the review of
literature at all.

Phenomenology  is the study that deals with individuals living experience within the
world. This method help us to develop our understanding in phenomenon through the
specific human experiences.

Narrative research is a method wherein we collect and analyze the stories of an

individual who has lived with the experience. It's purpose is to explore and
conceptualized  human experiences as it is represented in textual form.

Discourse Analysis is where we study and analyze the language that are used among
individuals, it's either oral, written or sign language. The main purpose of this study is
to understand how language is used in real life situation.

While in Feminist method, it is a way to carry out research and develop a hypothesis
from a female standpoint. Some goals or features  of this study is which include
attempting  to resolve study biases and provide social change.

5.Detail the difference between research methods and research methodology.

Research methods is a various way to gathered  information. It is the techniques,

processes or strategies utilized in the collection of data or evidence for analysis in
order to create better understanding of a topic.
In Research methodology is the application of particular methods used to define,
select,  process and interpret the data gathered. It answers the question of how the data
was obtained and analyze.
In short, the research method is the way to gather the data while research
methodology is to obtain and anlayze the gathered data.

6.List the research methodology you want to utilize in your study and describe why it
is the most suitable research methods for your research.

The research methodology that I prefer to use is the Survey .It is useful in so many
ways. It describe the characteristics of the large population by conducting a interview
through one-on-one, by paper, phone or via online chat. There are two categories of
survey research. The first one is the Questionnaire wherein the paper-and-pencil are
used to gathered the data. To complete this survey the respondents must answer the
questions through writing. While, the last is the interview, where the researcher ask
the respondents on one-on-one interview.

It is the most suitable research method for the research because we gain more
information and insights on a various topics.

7.Explain the parts of methodological framework.

The first one is the Begin with an idea and refine that idea. Wherein we need to think
what will the topic of our research. The State research question/statement in one
sentence is to choose an interesting general topic and to evaluate your general and
specific questions. Next is Specific aim and objective where we need to think what is
the objective and purpose of the research. Then, Literature Review provide foundation
and knowledge on topic. In selecting Methodology we need to choose an application
of particular methods for example the Survey or Global theory. Devise data collection
methods is to described important data collection methods used in research. Gather
data it is the information we get from research methods we used. In Analyzing the
data it is the process of systematically applying statistical or logical techniques to
describe, evaluate and illustrate the data. Draw conclusion is refers to information  is
implied or inferred.  Lastly, Complete write-up of thesis/report it is the writing thesis
report.

8.Define the similarities and differences between discourse analysis and document
analysis.

Discourse analysis is a research method for studying the written or spoken language
among individuals. It aims is to understand how language is used in real life
situations. While the document analysis describes the study of present information of
similar commercial operations or schemes to extract parts of data appropriate to the
present study. The aims of this research method is to gather facts.

9.Explain the feminist method in relation to social research.

Feminist method is the approach of conducting of scientific investigations and

generating theory from feminist standpoint. Social research is conducted by a social
scientists following a systematic plan It is done through communicating the
participants or direct observation. So,  feminist method in relation to social research is
focus to the use of feminism in the society.

10.Explain the term triangulation

Triangulation is the use of at least two different approach in answering the research
question. In triangulation, we adopt to use more method to validate the data through
the application and combination of two or more research methods. Some researchers
are using this techniques to investigate this phenomena and to get more better and
deep understanding of a research findings.
