There are some precautionary measures that we should follow during the experiment.

Firstly, we should carry out the adding process of isopropanol inside a fume chamber to
prevent us from the inhalation of isopropanol because it will cause some bad effects to our
body. Besides, we must make sure that the bulb of the thermometer does not touch the bottom
surface of the Erlenmeyer flask when we measure the temperature of the mixture of
isopropanol and oil sample. Next, we should add the NaOH slowly, drop by drop into the
Erlenmeyer flask and ensure that the solution is swirled thoroughly to obtain accurate
readings.
There are several errors occurred during the experiment is carried out. One of the
errors occurred is the leakage of burette. When the first titration is carried out, we found out
that the burette that we used is leaking. The leakage of burette made the readings of the
volume used of NaOH that we obtained become inaccurate. Besides, the NaOH used in the
experiment is exposed to the environment and it will react with the carbon dioxide in the air.
This will cause the readings obtained become inaccurate.
Based on the weaknesses stated above, there are some improvement steps can be
carried out to obtain more accurate results. First and foremost, we can replace the leaking
burette with a functioning burette and redo the titration process to obtain the accurate
readings. Besides, we must check the burette before we start the titration test to make sure
that the burette is functioning well. Moreover, the experiment can be conducted in a vacuum
condition to make sure that the NaOH does not in contact with the carbon dioxide in the air
so that the results obtained will be accurate.
