A SUPERFICIAL PERCEPTION

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24
and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
A SUFFICIENT WORD (a sufficient persecution)
25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they
have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
SERVING PRACTICALLY
26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves,
and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after
orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

A SUPERFICIAL PERCEPTION
Do not merely listen to the word
(Akroaomai - don't just be listeners).
a person who is only a listener of the word of God.
That is his lifestyle.
He is a Christian who is not involved in the work of God.
He is a Christian who does not assume his responsibilities.

and so deceive yourselves

Many people deceive themselves by thinking that they are saved when in reality they are not
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out
demons and, in your name, perform many miracles?’
Mat 7:23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Also, there are true believers who deceive themselves regarding their Christian life.

People in church
In a lot of church, we find confused people who believe that by the only fact of going to church and reading the bible
they are already well
self-deceived
they believe their own lie
these are immature Christians who do not realize their condition, because they are self-deceived.
They think they are very spiritual when they are not

Rev 3:17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are
wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
They are Christians who do not show the power of the word of God in their lives.
Christians without fruits
they are Christians who never take action, Christians who produce little fruit or directly no longer produce fruits.

A Christian cannot only be a listener of the word,

in this period of time that God gives us we must manage the resources that he provides us

1P4: 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace
in its various forms.

faithful stewards (kalós -oikonómos) The manager of household or of household affairs

He is trustworthy with the responsibility of managing household and business affairs

James 4:17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
it's not just not doing the bad thing it's also about doing the good thing
Dear listener you have to realize that one day we will be accountable to God.
2Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us
for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

judgment seat (Bema)

Bema was the court where athletes were crowned when they finished the race
judgment seat of Christ of Christ is only for a believer,
judgment seat of Christ is not for condemnation, it is for reward.

2Tim 2:5 Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing
according to the rules.

Here he is not talking about the loss of salvation, here he is talking about losing the opportunity to glorify God

James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves
Do what it says (Be a doer) (poietés)- poet..
(poietés)- poet.
he speaks of a person who is dedicated to poetry, a person who lives his life as a poet.
A Christian who applies the word of God, is a Christian writes a spiritual poem in his life that honors God.
James talks about a lifestyle applying the Word of God.
God's Word calls us
Soldiers
Athletes
Fishermen
Ambassadors

James 1:23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a
mirror
James 1:24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

James is talking about a person who by looking quickly without paying attention to details, does not get benefit from
the mirror.
this person is not affected by what the mirror shows,
A Christian who reads his bible sometimes does not have the habit of studying the bible

A SUFFICIENT WORD

James 1:25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting
what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

looks intently
( parakúpto) Bend over to look

At that time the mirror was not glass, the mirror was a polished metal that leaned on the bottom of a wall
To see you, you had to bend down and spend some time to observe yourself well and comb your hair or get ready
To really see how we are we must humble ourselves before the word of God,
the perfect law that gives freedom
(Teleio ) perfectly, completely
John 19 :30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up
his spirit.

2Tim 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
2Tim 3:17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Inspiration: Is the supernatural work of the holy spirit in the life of writers, whom I entrust and guide to write.

It is unalterable.
Psalm 12:6 And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.
(you don't need to add or take anything Rev 22:18-19)

It is inerrant.
“Scripture is without error or defect in all its teaching.
2P 1:19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention

teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness

The word
rebuking me when I get out of the right path
It corrects me how to get back on the right path
He instructs me how to stay on the right path

James 1:25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom
and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

Allows me to examine myself.

Allows me to engage with the mission.
Allows me to experience his miracles.

long ago there was a company looking for people who know how to use the telegraph
Then a young man showed up at the company when he entered, he saw that there were ten more young people
waiting to get the job. While they waited, the sound of several telegraphs could be heard.
suddenly the young man who arrived last, he got up and went to the office
all who were waiting began to complain.
It was so the owner of the company came out and said that the job was already filled.
what happened in this story is that the sound of the telegraphs had a message that said if you hear this message
go to the office and you will have this job, This young man was attentive to the message and obeyed what the
message said.
(they listen to the sound but they don't listen to the message that doesn't allow them to obey the message)
A SERVICE PRACTICED
26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves,
and their religion is worthless.
Religious Devotee of the rites and liturgies this speaks only of something external
he considers himself but really is not a spiritual person
James's problem is discussed in Chapter 2

27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their
distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
