Typical Edge Distance:

Calculate Weld Thickness:

Welds to Web: Web thickness minus 1/16”

Welds to Flange: Flange thickness minus 1/8”

Calculate Bolt Hole:

Bolt diameter + 1/16”

Horizontal Bracing:
Set 3” Below TOS unless specified otherwise

Steel Display Info (Single Line)

Steel that has a space = Bolted
Steel that touches = Welded
Vertical Bracing:
See image below for workpoint (WP) placement.
Grating Span:
The span is the direction of the bearing bars (long bars)

Span Distances:
1 1/4" Grating: 4’-6” Max Span

1” Grating: 4’-0” Max Span

When possible run the span the shortest distance, ie

Drawing Layout:
North ALWAYS points up or left.

Elevation views are orientated differently depending on which way North is pointed.

North pointed up elevations: North & West

North pointed left elevations: North & East

Cable Tray Support:

Cable trays are supported on BOTH sides of a bend. Your support can be up to 2’-0” MAX from the joint.

Cable tray supports max spacing:

Horizontal = 20’-0”
Vertical = 10’-0”

See NEMA VE 2-2013 ERRATA.pdf

Bracing Types:

Column Line Designation/Sections Callouts:

Never use I or O, they get confused with 1 (one) and 0 (zero)
Gusset Plate’s

Min-Max Angles (Vertical Braces)

30° Min – 60° Max
45° is preferred

Less than 30° or more than 60° is not useable and provide no structural support.

Structures and platforms should have the same scale as the framing plans.
Section cut’s
When showing a section of a structural member, always show double line cross hatch (Hatch type ANSI32).

If the section contains multiple structural members, stagger hatch pattern by 90° on each member.
