7 List of recommended antennas for WCDMA

networks

7.1 Introduction
The deployment of WCDMA will face mainly three different deployment scenarios for
the antenna configuration.
The scenarios are
- single band antenna application (standalone WCDMA)
- multiple-band antenna application (co-location with GSM)
- antenna application for shared networks (multiple operator).
Therefore several antenna configurations are possible implying that several antenna
types will be required for the WCDMA.
Nevertheless the intention of this document is to reduce the overall antenna types to
only a few antenna types which will be mainly used. However the list needs to be
updated permanently and adjusted to the various deployment strategies of the
operators.

7.2 Single band antenna application

The single band application will be the main application case because firstly the
network planning, tuning and optimization will not impact the existing GSM networks
which are mainly tuned finally. Secondly there is no change in the GSM networks
necessary – no downtime of the network. Thirdly there will be no impact on the
existing hardware of GSM especially on the TMA, duplex filtering and BTS in case of
different system suppliers for GSM and WCDMA.
GSM and WCDMA will be fully flexible in respect to the network deployment, tuning
and operation/maintenance.

7.3 Multiple band antenna application

The multiple band application has to be used at site locations where environmental
problems have to be coped with. In these cases, compromises have to be found to
install multiple band antennas for WCDMA, GSM900 and/or GSM1800 in respect to
the network deployment, tuning and operation/maintenance.
These cases can be coped with certain recommended antennas but there will be also
a high demand for special solutions.

7.4 Shared network application

Shared network will only be applied to WCDMA. This will be the single band
application.
In special cases, the shared antenna system for WCDMA may also be used for GSM.
This will be a multiple antenna application.

Electrical downtilt will be mainly used in WCDMA networks. The variable electrical tilt
information depends strongly on the design of the antenna chosen by the antenna
supplier.
For co-sitting solutions like UMTS 2000 + UMTS 1900 single (broad) band antennas
(Group No. 1 – 6, 26 - 28) covering the whole frequency range 1700-2170 MHz can be
used together with some additional devise like diplexer. Another solution is applying of
dual antennas (Group No. 19, 21) – one antenna for the UMTS 2000 and the other
one for the UMTS 1900.
In order to design sites operating at UMTS 2000 and UMTS 850 simultaneously the
planner has to use single band antennas serving mentioned bands separately, for
instance Group No. 1 – 6, 26 – 28 for UMTS 2000 and Group No. 10 – 17 UMTS 850.
Such a solution is also available with dual band antennas 18, 20, 23.
Utilizing dual band antennas co-sitting solutions for UMTS 1900 and UMTS 850 are
also possible (Group No. 18, 20, 22, 23).
New group of tri band antennas gives possibility to set sites with all three systems
UMTS 1700/2100, UMTS 1900 and UMTS 850 operating simultaneously (Group No.
24, 25). However, such a scenario is possible for dense urban, urban, suburban
environments so far. Nevertheless, the planner has to decide whether such a solution
is profitable in terms of the network optimization.
Unfortunately there are no examples of omni directional antennas that cover both
required bands UMTS 2000 and UMTS 1900 or UMTS 850 simultaneously. If it is
necessary to utilize an omni directional antenna it can not be avoided to use
equipment serving mentioned bands separately, for instance: Group No. 7 – covers
only 1710 – 1880 MHz band, Group No. 8 – covers only 1920 – 2170 MHz band,
Group No. 9 – covers only 1850 – 1990 MHz band whereas Group No.17 covers 806
– 896 MHz band.
The above list is a first approach to reduce the several possible antenna types to a
reasonable small number.

7.6 Examples of antennas

Following table contains a list of exemplary antenna types available on the market
from Kathrein, RFS and Andrew companies, whereby the Kathrein and Andrew are
Siemens preferred suppliers. Antennas are grouped in accordance with the table in
section 7.5.
NOTE 1: If there is set a single value in column with Downtilt parameter it means a
fixed tilt, otherwise the offered tilt is variable.
NOTE 2: Backslash ‘/’ separates values of presented parameters for proper sub-bands
according to listed Frequency ranges.
