Tangaliya is the art of weaving, of the Dangasiya community in the Surendranagar district of Gujarat.
The name comes from the cloth traditionally worn by the herdsmen from this region. The process of
Tangaliya weaving is labour intensive. Every dot in is made by wrapping yarn around a number of
threads, which brings out the design on both sides.
Vastadi is a village in the Surendranagar district where the Dangasia community is still weaving
Tangaliya. Wool, cotton or silk forms the raw material for the weaving of base fabric. A special
technique called dana-work is done using cotton fibers. Geometric motifs are woven into the fabric
while it is still on the loom.

Shop Patola
Patola is an ancient Gujarati art of weaving. The traditional material used for patolas is silk.
Traditional Patola from Patan is a double weave. The Patola we refer to is from the Surendranagar
district in Gujarat. It is a single ikat (knot) style of weaving. Weaving these products is an intensive
process that includes the entire family. A saree takes around 10 to12 days to complete.
The products in Patola range from traditional sarees to stoles, scarves and cushion covers. We have
expanded the repertoire of Patola by introducing wool and cotton products as well.
To produce single ikat, the pattern is dyed on the yarn before the fabric is woven on the
loom.
The yarn is stretched on a framework, of the same size of the loom, and the not-to-be-dyed
pattern is marked by threads. After this the yarn is dyed in the preferred color.
The yarn is again stretched on the frame, and the marking of the design continues, by adding
and removing the threads that mark the design. After this the yarn is dyed again. This
process continues untill the desired pattern is dyed on the yarn.
Now the yarn is ready to be stretched on the loom. Because the loom and the frame where
the yarn has been prepared on have the same size, the pattern that emerges while weaving
follows the design accurately.
The design of the single-ikat Patola from Rweaves is dyed on the weft. The warp is dyed in
the base-colour of that particular design.
