The subject includes applying counterpoint in Baroque-Classical style alongside with the use of
Partimento and Schemata Theory.
The student must achieve the goals of:
1- Writing a Prelude ( keyboard style at the times of Bach or two-three voices ), after being trained by
working on Figured Basses-Partimento of The Langloz Manuscript combined with other
Preludes-Partimento by Napolitanian School , learning alongside the terminology, use and position of
the specifics at that time such as schemes, progressions,suspensions, cadences, diminution and
double counterpoint ( or invertible) patterns when applies.
2-Writing a Scholar Fugue, with the aim of understanding and applying all the counterpoint techniques
possible dealing with basses from Langloz, Paris Conservatoire or Italian different schools. First
exercising in constructing the different parts and then gaining confidence and step by step
constructing one by themselves.
3-The last big work they must try it's an Aria Da Cappo. They must work with the text and
understand/analysing how rhetorics work in context and how is related to Schemas. Furthemore, they
are asked to write an Aria for continuo violins and solo voice. They must achieve a good style that
fluctuates and would be an 18th-century natural style.
