How to enter the MX record

values for GSuite Gmail

Today we are going to learn how to enter the MX record values into your DNS settings so that
your mail is pointing to Google’s servers. It’s like registering a new address with the post office so
that your mail gets delivered.
Know before you go
Before we dive in, take a look at this Google support article which details the specific MX record
values that you should enter in your DNS provider’s settings. Additionally, check out this video
that identifies the step by step process of entering MX record values:

Entering MX records
Now that you are acquainted with specific MX record values, let's open up a tab and navigate to your
Domain host and sign in. Go to the section to update your domain’s MX records. It might be called
something like "DNS Management," “Mail Settings,” or "Advanced Settings". You can see that my
domain host is GoDaddy but note that these instructions are similar regardless of your provider.

First, delete any existing MX records. If you are unable to delete the existing records, change their
priority number to 20 or higher. Mail is delivered to the server with the highest priority first. A lower
number has higher priority: for example '1' has higher priority than '10'. If for some reason a server
isn't available, mail is delivered to the server with the next highest priority, and so on down the list.

Be sure to click save! We’ll head back to that G Suite Support article and do the same thing for the
rest of the values - paying close attention to the different priorities assigned to them.

Add new MX records for the Google mail servers. If your domain host limits the number of MX
records, just add the first 2 records in this table.
