L-Taurine is an amino acid (required block of protein) and a powerful antioxidant.

Taurine “supports neurological development and helps regulate the level of water and
mineral salts in the blood” (www.mayoclinic.org). Taurine plays an important role in
cardiovascular function by acting not only within the brain but also within peripheral
tissues. Taurine acts on GABA receptors; it is commonly supplemented during stress and

L-Taurine conjugates bile acids, and while unconjugated bile acids are relatively insoluble
in water, the conjugated forms with Taurine are much more water soluble and much more
able to fulfill their physiologic function of emulsifying fats. This is one of the
mechanisms by which taurine gained its reputation for supporting lipid homeostasis.
