Fluency
- He/ she can keep going comprehensibly, even
though pausing for grammatical and lexical
planning and repair is very evident, especially in
longer stretches of free production
- Can express him/herself with relative ease.
Despite some problems with formulation
resulting in pauses and "culde- sacs", he/she is
able to keep going effectively without help.

Use of vocabulary
- He/ she has enough language to get by, to
sufficient language to express himself/ herself
with some hesitation circomlocutions

Pronunciation
- Pronunciation is clearly intelligible even if a
foreign accent is sometimes evident and
occasional mispronunciations occur.

Communication skills
- He/ she can deal with most situations
- He/ she can enter unprepared into a
conversation on topics that are familiar, of
personal interest or pertinent to everyday life

Organization
- He/ she can explain the main points in an idea or
problem with reasonable precision.
- He/ she can convey simple, straightforward
information of immediate relevance, getting
across which point he/she feels is most
important.
- Can express the main point he/she wants to
make comprehensibly
- He/ she can link a series of shorter, discrete,
simple elements into a connected linear
sequence of points

Accuracy
- He/ she uses reasonably accurately a repertoire
of frequently used “routines” and patterns
associated with more predictable situations

Grammar
- He/ she communicates with reasonable accuracy
in familiar contexts; generally good control
though with noticeable mother tongue
influence. Errors occur, but it is clear what
he/she is trying to express.
