INTRODUCTION

•Tally is an accounting software used to record the business transactions to accumulate the profit or loss.

•Tally stands for “Transactions Allowed in a Linear Line Yards”.

•It integrates all business operations like sales, finance, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing and so on.

•Tally facilitates accurate and up-to-date business information at our fingertips anywhere.

•Bharat Goenka is known as “Father of Tally”.

•Tally started its journey in 1986.

Tally 3.0
• Tally released this version in 1990 wherein it supported only Basic Accounting needs of
small business operations.

• Tally Accounting Package was only used to run in Microsoft DOS(Disk Operating System) and it
was unable to run in Windows OS.

• To operate the software, user had to remember the Predefined Commands in his mind and then
run it.

Tally 3.12
• Established in 1991, this version of tally focused on the basics of accounting somewhat similar to
version 3.0 .

• This version was faster compared to earlier one but was not so user friendly.

Tally 4
• Tally released this version in the year 1992

• Like its previous versions , it also supported DOS based accounting as it could not be run on
windows operating system.

Tally 4.5

• Tally released this version in 1994 which ran on MS DOS

• It focused on financial accounting systems and activities such as ledgers, classification vouchers
entry .

• It offered simple financial reports and scrutiny of debtors and creditors of business

Tally 5 version
• It was introduced in the year 1996 .

•With Tally 5 version Tally Software introduced its operating in Windows OS.

•It became user-friendly and very easy to operate with Graphical User Interface of the software in comparison
to earlier versions which were operated with Standard Commands.

•Still supported the Basic Accounting as the earlier versions did and hence there was not any enhancement in
the Business Operation.

Tally 5.4 version


• It was released in the year 1996

•Inventory maintenance was introduced with this version.

•Recording the Stock quantity and generating the stock reports was developed

Tally 6.3 version

• Locking the software with single computer was introduced with this version in 2001

• By Hardware Lock facility duplication of the software usage was eradicated.

Tally 7.2 version


• This version was released in 2005.

• Tally Software was able to handle the Statutory Operations by recording the VAT, Service Tax, TDS like
transactions.

• It was also able to generate the Statutory Forms for smooth and accurate functioning of the Statutory
Filing.

Tally 8.1 version
• T​ his version was released in 2006
• With the launch of this version, Tally supported Muliti-Lingual compared to its previous versions. It
supports 10 different languages

Tally 9 version
• Released in 2006 , it was an enhanced version over the earlier 8.1 .

• It supported 13 languages , including foreign ones and also includes Payroll , POS (Point of Sales )

Tally ERP 9
• This is the latest version released in 2009 , which is a complete business solution.

• This version offers different features such as remote access , much commanding data security,
tally.net and several more .
