HISTORIC FACTS

Science fiction movies have been around since the 1900s. Science fiction
films appeared very early in the silent film era. They were usually 1-2 minutes
long in black and white, but sometimes with colour tinning. Movies during the
1930s were impacted by the advent of sound and dialogue. Audiences began
to pursue films with more escapist themes. Other elements of science fiction
were carried out into the
burgeoning horror genre
by the Universal
Studios. Every year in
the 1990s one or more
major science fiction or
fantasy films were
produced. Although it
took several decades
before the genre was
taken seriously. Since
the 1960s major science fiction films have succeeded in pulling a large
audience and films of this genre have become a really big part of the film
industry.
