Green chilies on everything, please! Another thing that Colorado does right is Mexican food, and one thing that
makes Colorado Mexican food unique are the roasted green chili peppers. Nowadays, the chili pepper has become
so popular it’s regularly added to other types of food, like pizza, sandwiches, burgers, cake… OK not cake but you
get the picture.

Not only is it the seventh most sexually satisfied city in the nation, Denver is the most sexually active city as well
with sales of contraceptives 189 percent higher than the national average. Sales of female contraceptives are even
higher, at 278 percent of the national average. Ironically, they’ve also got an impressive birth rate.

3. The World’s Greatest Amphitheater Is Here And It’s Literally Built On Rock

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is literally built into the side of a huge red rock, making it one of the most spectacular
venues in the world. With shows almost every night in the summer, it’s easy to find something worth going to. Just
outside of Denver, the audience can watch the skyline come to life as the sun sets each night.

4. Every Coloradan Is Crazy For Canines

Dog parks. Dogs at dinner. Dogs in a bar. Dogs on skis. There are tons of dogs in Colorado. And the dogs are as
active as their human owners. It’s not uncommon to see a dog on a raft or a dog at the top of a mountain.
Colorado knows how to have a good time with “man’s best friend.”

5. Colorado Gave You Smashburger, You’re Welcome

Originating in Denver, Smashburger is known for their wide range of delicious toppings and customizing their
menu depending on where in the country a restaurant is. For example, the Buckeye Burger is only available in
Ohio locations. It’s a burger topped with fried pepper rings and haystack onions, on an egg bun.

6. Coloradans Give Hitchhikers The Thumbs Up

In ski towns and other smaller communities around Colorado, it’s relatively normal to see a person hitchhiking on
the side of the road and it’s relatively normal to see them get picked up fairly quickly. Whether they need a ride up
to the top of a big hill or have had too much to drink at a bar, hitchhiking is often an acceptable means of getting
to a destination.

7. Tomay-Toe, Tomah-Toe, It All Feels The Same When One Smacks You In The Face

Every year, there’s an annual food fight in Copper where 5,000 participants throw 300,000 pounds of tomatoes at
each other. And of course no event in Colorado would be complete without a good amount of libations and live
music to accompany these brave be-fruited soldiers.

8. There Are Four Seasons In Colorado: Spring, Summer, Fall, And Ski

Ski season is long in Colorado, typically starting in November and sometimes lasting until the Fourth of July. That
being said, a lot of people in the state live to ski. The only downside to so much skiing is that it calls for a lot of
snow. While the roads are usually cleared, always be prepared for a sudden snowstorm to delay your day.
9. Sorry Dudes, South Park Isn’t An Actual Town

The popular cartoon South Park is set in a mountainous town somewhere in Colorado. While there isn’t a town
called “South Park,” there is an area that goes by that name. In that area lies the town Fairplay, which embraces
the fame of the show and even has a gift shop that sells almost anything stamped with everyone’s favorite
characters.

10. The Faucets Here Have Three Knobs: Hot, Cold, And Craft Beer

Or at least Coloradans wish they did. With 217 breweries calling Colorado their home, Colorado ranks third among
the states, beaten only by California with 509 and Washington with 251. Craft brews give beer drinkers a
seemingly endless number of options, with selections ranging from rocky mountain oyster stouts to beer made
with green chili powder. With so many beer lovers, Colorado also consistently ranks high on “the drunkest states”
lists.

11. I Hope Your Favorite Color Is Orange—And Your Second Favorite Is Blue

Denver Broncos fans are everywhere. Now under the lead of Peyton Manning, fans still love to reminisce of the
John Elway era. Even though they got crushed in the Super Bowl last year, it wouldn’t be surprising if Peyton
managed to help the team bring home a ring soon.

12. Coloradans Love The Rockies Even When Things Get… Er… Rocky

The Rockies aren’t always the best team in the league, and sometimes they lose a lot of games. However, the
awesome downtown Denver stadium that they play in, Coors Field, makes home games a blast to attend. With an
in-house Blue Moon brewery and tons of food options, fans always leave happy, win or lose.

13. People Here Are In A Perpetual State Of Pep

Behind only Hawaii, Colorado Is the second happiest state in the country according to overall satisfaction of the
residents.

14. There Is Nothing Like A Rocky Mountain High

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard that marijuana has been legalized for recreational
use by the State of Colorado. With taxes from legal marijuana sales going directly towards Colorado’s public
school system, it’s expected the state will make $30 million this year. Interestingly enough, crime rates in Colorado
have also fallen since legalization.

15. Is It Altitude Sickness, Or Just The World’s Worst Hangover?

Denver is known as the mile high city for a reason, it’s literally a mile above sea level. That being said, the air is a
lot thinner. If you’re new to the state, take some time to let your body adjust before you do anything strenuous.
Otherwise, you’ll end up nauseas and extremely fatigued. This includes heavy drinking. If you overdo it you’ll be
stuck on the couch for days. Trust me.

16. Coloradans Have A Lot Of Balls… On Their Plates

A deep-fried treat unique to Colorado, Rocky Mountain Oysters aren’t actually seafood at all, they’re bull testicles.
When bulls are castrated, their balls have to go somewhere. Some brave Coloradan thought it would be a great
idea to fry them up, and the tradition stuck.
17. Coloradans Love To Drive Fast—If Their Cars Can Handle It

The speed limit on the interstate is 75 miles-per-hour, but it feels a lot faster when cars are whipping down a
mountainside. Even if there’s snow on the roads, it’s a common sight to see people well above the speed limit.
However, it’s also just as common to see a car that can’t quite get up to speed during a mountain climb, leaving
them stuck at 35 miles per hour with the pedal to the metal.

18. Folks In Colorado Can Have Some Pretty Strange Tan Lines

Just because it snows a lot in Colorado doesn’t mean the sun doesn’t shine. Some parts of Colorado can get close
to 300 days of sunshine a year. That combined with the sun reflecting off of the snow can make for some very

Sure, some people dress up in Colorado, but it’s also very common to see people out for dinner and at the bars in
the same clothes they’d wear hiking, especially in the smaller towns.

Every Coloradan is expected to love at least three different sports, depending on what season it is. Sure, there’s
skiing and snowboarding in the winter, but the summer months shine a whole new light on Colorado making
things like white water rafting, rock climbing, and mountain biking possible.

When friends from out-of-town come to visit, get ready for them to take a lot of pictures. A simple drive to the

Ski towns are expensive. They’re filled with tourists that often have huge disposable incomes. However, one thing

a cheap afternoon beer or appetizer.

with money off their bill. This helps make it affordable for the people living year-round in ski towns.

It’s very dry in Colorado, which means it catches on fire very easily. Typically every summer, there will be a huge
forest fire tearing through acres and acres of aspens while smoke fills nearby towns making them look like they’re
part of some horror movie. But, don’t be alarmed, the firefighters know what they’re doing and it’s all part of the
cycle that has kept Colorado wildlife growing for years.

25. Coloradans Are Always Working On Their Fitness

The fifth most active state in the country, Coloradans are a very healthy people. In 2013, Colorado ranked in as the
second least obese state, with only 20.4 percent of its residents qualifying as obese. To put that in perspective,
Mississippi was the highest at 35.4%.

26. Everyday At The University of Colorado Boulder Is Picture Perfect

With a view of the Rocky Mountains and the Flatirons easily seen from around campus, Boulder gives students a
view that can’t be beat. Football games in Boulder are unbelievable, as fans can cheer on the Buffs while seeing
snowcapped peaks from the bowl.

One of the reasons Colorado is such a pretty place to be is that Coloradans truly respect their backyard. Nobody
litters and everyone cleans up after each other. A quick way to make enemies is to leave trash lying around.

Colorado is the perfect blend of Midwestern friendliness and the laid back West Coast. Not only do Coloradans
respect the land, but they respect each other. There’s always someone willing to help you pick up a new sport or

a-kind.
