Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.
Planning
For the White Paper assignment, I began by researching as much as I could that had to do with issues
in Hawaii that impact endangered species. After getting an idea of the issues, I picked out the top
three reasons and went in depth with research such as the problems and solutions. One of the
challenges I went through was the lack of information provided with certain topics. Pollution,
deforestation, and construction, all had connections that were very similar, which made it difficult to
bring up different points to why endangered species are in trouble in Hawaii. After spending hours of
researching and receiving the same information, I decided to find a way to overcome the challenge. I
began to use the information to make indications and use it in my White paper. For example, I talk
about how cutting down trees leads to pollution, which leads to decrease of reproduction, which
then leads to endangered species, and then extinction. If a certain species goes extinct, the
consumer may also become endangered and the cycle continues. I began to include the assumptions
and indications from research. Throughout the planning process, I learned that presenting the
audience with facts is not enough. The more you explain the facts, the better your drafts will
become.
especially in this assignment since it was a writing assignment that needed headers to separate
sections. I added more images after I was suggested to do, which caused the same issue as I
mentioned in my first draft, which I solved using the same method. Another challenge I ran into was
that I felt as if I was repeating myself over and over again, including in my conclusion. To overcome
the issue, I reread my work to see how I can improve my work. I realized that I was overloading my
readers with information, therefore I decided to take some sentences out, so I can have a good wrap
up for my conclusion. I learned a lot about how to present information through this assignment.
Through the struggle of repetitive information, I learn about how much to present information in
simple language and what to save for the conclusion, which allows the audience to keep wanting to
read instead of losing interest.
