Why an Applied Data Science Camp?

The Quest
Adopt and integrate AI & Automation across our product and service portfolio
to make 5G switch easy for our service providers.

Winning Component
Merge deep domain expertise in telecommunications with AI capabilities
supported by project-based learning with Data Science and ML experts.

Fast Track Solution Invest in our talent by empowering domain experts to rapidly learn and apply
data science and machine learning concepts and algorithms in their daily
work through hands-on scenario-based learning, work on Ericsson use case
projects, and mentoring from internal and external DS/ML experts.

What you will learn and practice in the ADS Camp
Cross industry standard process for data mining ● Use this common data processing model consistently, to analyze requests
(CRISP-DM)* and opportunities to apply Data Science and Machine Learning (ML)
● Analyze use cases to identify if and how they can be addressed through
data science and ML
● Assess the quality and relevance of data to address use cases
● Apply data cleansing techniques to data
● Recommend how to address data challenges
● Apply data science and machine learning concepts and algorithms to
common use cases:
● Supervised Learning - Regression, Classification, Decision Trees,
Random Forest, K-nearest neighbors, Neural Networks, Generative
Learning
● Unsupervised Learning - Clustering, Dimensionality Reduction, Feature
Reduction,
● Anomaly Detection
● A/B Testing
● Apply feature scaling and encoding to common use cases and Ericsson
use case
● Apply learning theory and model selection to common use case and
Ericsson use case
● Analyze, develop, and present a solution to an Ericsson use case to
mentors and cohort

Foundation: Weeks 1 – 7 typical week of work
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday

Attend live lecture: Ericsson project: Applying learnings to your work:

presenting and discussing learning to project with team and week’s learning to your work*** (1 hour)
key module concepts; Ericsson mentor (1.5 hours)**
foundational for remaining
weekly work (1.5 hours)

Complete self-study: videos, course readings, and related

weekly assignment in Jupyter notebook (4 hours)*

* Recommendation: set aside same time each week for self-study, Ericsson project, and cohort collaboration on work-related challenge
** Self-study: complete work in whatever way works best for you. Recommendation is to complete it by the time you meet with your Ericsson mentor on the
Ericsson project
*** Ericsson project: Project team and Ericsson mentor can decide on when to meet. Recommendation is to meet after self-study work is completed for the
week so that you can discuss how to apply it to the project.
**** Application to daily work: Although you can respond to the weekly work challenge anytime during the week, it is recommended to work on it at the end
of the week to benefit from the blend of learning opportunities you experience throughout the week. It’s a 1-hour activity that you can spread over 1 or 2 days.

independent project work (4 hours)* Ericsson Mentor** (1 hour) (1 hour) (2 hours)

* Recommendation: keep the same two-hour time block each week to work on Ericsson project use case.
* Project team + independent work: You can complete this work in whatever way works best for you. Recommendation is to spend time with project team
discussing approach, learnings from previous independent work, next steps, and preparation for how to use Ericsson Mentor and present to Combient Mentor and
then time to do independent work. Suggested ratio – 1 – 1.5 hour team discussion and 2.5 - 3 hours for independent work.
** Ericsson mentoring in project teams: This time will vary; the team and mentor decide what’s best – 2-hour meeting with Mentor vs 1 hour with mentor and 1
hour independent work.
*** Combient mentoring: This time will vary; the team and mentor decide what’s best – 2-hour meeting with Combient Mentor vs 1 hour with Combient Mentor
and 1 hour post discussion with Project team about next steps.
