Quick Start Guide


This guide provides you with the basic information required to install WebSphere Business Modeler.

Product overview
You can use IBM® WebSphere® Business Modeler to graphically model and analyze current and potential business processes.
You can also generate and print predefined or custom reports about your model information. Additionally, you can run and
analyze process simulations, and can export completed models to WebSphere Integration Developer and other applications to
review, develop, and deploy them, or to use them to monitor process performance.

1 Step 1: Access your software and documentation


This product offering consists of the Quick Start CD and the WebSphere Business Modeler product DVD.
Access WebSphere Business Modeler from the product DVD or download the product from the Passport Advantage® Web
site.

2 Step 2: Evaluate your hardware and system configuration

3 Step 3: Review the implementation architecture


To use WebSphere Business Modeler primarily to create and gather data from business process models, install it as a standalone
product.

To simplify application development, install WebSphere Business Modeler with WebSphere Integration Developer or one of the

4 Step 4: Install WebSphere Business Modeler
To install WebSphere Business Modeler:
1. Log in to your Microsoft Windows® operating system as an administrator.
2. If you are installing from the a DVD:
v Insert the DVD disk 1 into your DVD drive. If autorun is enabled on your system, go to step 4.
Alternatively, if you downloaded the electronic parts from Passport Advantage:
v Extract the compressed installation file to a directory (for example, C:\wbminstall\).
3. Start the WebSphere Business Modeler launchpad by running launchpad.exe in the root directory.
4. On the launchpad, click Install IBM WebSphere Business Modeler Advanced V7.0.
5. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard.
Notes:
a. If IBM Installation Manager is not detected on your computer, then it is installed at the same time as WebSphere
Business Modeler.
b. If you are installing on Windows Vista, choose directories outside the C:\Program Files\ structure so that users
who do not have administrator privileges can work with WebSphere Business Modeler.
c. If you exit Installation Manager before completing the WebSphere Business Modeler installation, you must restart
the installation from the WebSphere Business Modeler launchpad and not from the Installation Manager wizard. If
you restart the installation from the Installation Manager wizard, it is not preconfigured with the necessary
installation repositories information to install WebSphere Business Modeler.
6. When the installation completes, check for product updates by clicking Update in Installation Manager.

After you have installed WebSphere Business Modeler, you can access the documentation for it from the Help menu or
button.
