A Golden Year – Gibsons Celebrate 100 Years!

2019 is very special year for Gibsons as they have been trading as a British, family run business for 100
years.

In 1903 the company founder, Harry Percy Gibson, obtained an unsecured loan of £500 and launched
H P Gibson & Sons Ltd. Originally, their name was made with the ‘HPG’ brand of indoor games such as
L’Attaque and Dover Patrol, which were huge sellers before and after the Second World War. They went
on to launch jigsaw puzzles in the 1980s and the business has grown from strength to strength ever
since.

The company entered its fourth generation in 2016 when its founder’s great-granddaughters, Kate
Gibson and Nicki Gumbrell, stepped up to become Gibsons’ Managing Director and Sales Director.

Kate says ‘We are extremely fortunate to have such a strong heritage; it is a big part of who we are
today. Behind Gibsons is a strong and supportive team, many of whom have been a part of our company
for decades and are the reason for our success.’

In 2018 the Gibsons team expanded and is now made up of twenty members at their head office.

Gibsons were delighted that, based on rate of sale, they were the UK’s best performing manufacturer in
adult puzzles for the whole of 2018* and are proud to be the home of the thickest 1000 piece jigsaws on
the UK market.

Gibsons would like to thank everyone who has been a part of their story so far, from jigsaw puzzlers, to
suppliers, retailers and warehouse partners and everyone in between. Their team works hard all year to
create extra-special products and 2019 is no different. From a brand-new children’s range, to new
contemporary jigsaw designs, their 2019 range is crammed full of fantastic puzzles, games and gifts.

Kate Gibson, MD of Gibsons states, “2019 is a huge year for us and we wanted to do something
special to say thank you to our fabulous jigsaw fans! The 100 tickets mark the 100 years that we have
been in business. As well as releasing some wonderful designs this year, Gibsons 1000 piece puzzles

Breaking (up) the Jigsaw Rules! – Gibsons launch the White Logo Collection.

Gibsons have released a brand-new collection of design-led jigsaw puzzles especially for grown-ups
that are available to order now. There are six 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles available in the White Logo
range, all of which have been specifically selected for their striking designs and unconventional scenes.

Following the trend of mindfulness and the nation’s desire to spend less time looking at a screen,
Gibsons’ White Logo jigsaws are perfect for the new wave of puzzlers who are looking for more
innovative and contemporary designs rather than typical, traditional puzzle scenes. To select the
imagery, Gibsons interviewed prospective puzzlers who voted for their favourite designs* that didn’t
conform to conventional jigsaw illustrations.

Avocado Park is one of the new puzzles and is filled to the brim with everyone’s favourite little fruit!
The puzzle depicts hundreds of avo-people doing avo-cardio or chilling with their avo-dogs in the park.
It’s the pear-fect puzzle for any avocado enthusiast. Another puzzle in the range is Carnival which was
created by Hackney-based artist Rob Pybus and has been specially commissioned to celebrate Gibsons’
100th anniversary. The strikingly busy puzzle crammed full of celebratory vibes is the ultimate way to
reward your mind with a digital detox.

Kim Garrod, Product Development Manager at Gibsons states, “Our classic jigsaws are some of the best
on the market and are loved by all traditional puzzlers. However, we’re well aware of the importance
of mindfulness among a younger age group and wanted to launch a range of striking, design-led puzzles
that don’t conform to jigsaw puzzle traditions. So, we’ve also focused on creating innovative puzzle
boxes that stand out on the shelf and jigsaw designs by up-and-coming artists.”

Designed and manufactured in the UK from the thickest board available on the jigsaw puzzle market,
the White Logo puzzles are made from 100% recycled board and are presented in compact boxes to
reduce unnecessary cardboard waste. Additionally, the puzzles are secured with paper tabs instead of
shrink wrap to avoid excess plastic waste, adhering to Gibsons’ goal to reduce their carbon footprint.

*In a poll of 139 prospective puzzlers, the respondents voted for their favourite designs which were then selected
for this range.

Zonkers is Gibsons’ brand new fast and frantic dice game that will be launched at Toy Fair 2019.

to their collection. These games are the perfect entertainment for long car journeys or rainy afternoons
spent indoors.

Zonkers will be available to order from mid February; in the meantime Gibsons will be holding a Zonkers

Little Gibsons – Little puzzles, lots of fun

As a family business, Gibsons is proud to entertain all generations and this year they have launched a
brand-new children’s collection. Three new jigsaws are available now and a further four jigsaws and
games are arriving in the summer, all of which have been tailor-made for inquisitive pre-schoolers
thanks to their bright, quirky packaging and on-trend themes.

The three new jigsaw puzzles are made from the same high-quality materials as Gibsons’ award-winning
adult jigsaw range, guaranteeing durability and resilience. Each jigsaw has been designed by a British
artist and is presented in an innovative box that links to the artwork theme. For example, 36-piece
puzzle Camp Gibsons is the first ever puzzle to be presented in a tent shaped box, which complements
the explorative treasure map puzzle that’s inside. The Sweet Dreams puzzle is presented in a striking
crystal-ball shaped box to portray the mystical dream-world jigsaw that’s filled with unicorns and llamas!

Product Development Manager, Kim Garrod states, “Traditional play is extremely important, especially
in the fast-paced, technological age we live in. At Gibsons, we wanted to create a range of puzzles and
games that encourage children to use their imaginations and develop their motor skills whilst having fun.
The bright designs of the quirky boxes and puzzle pieces immediately draw the eye and hold their
attention, and each puzzle is filled with delightful characters to encourage discussions and creativity.”

Celebrating their 100th anniversary this year, Gibsons had a record-breaking 2018 and were the number
one performing adult puzzle manufacturer (based on rate of sale)*. Moreover, their 1000 piece jigsaw
puzzles are the thickest puzzle pieces available in the UK market, which means that their high quality

L’Attaque! – A Gibsons’ classic makes a comeback.

To mark their Centenary, Gibsons are bringing back one of their first ever iconic games, L’Attaque.

A strategic board game for two people, L'Attaque was the first of The Big Four military based games
for Gibsons. A 'capture the flag' style game of strategy, L'Attaque was the precursor to the popular
title, Stratego, and was a firm favourite of Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
Managing Director, Kate Gibson, says “We are so delighted to bring back this fantastic game into
our range. This centenary edition stays true to the original that was launched in 1925, but with
brighter and bolder artwork. L’Attaque is the perfect game to bring back to celebrate our centenary,
as it highlights how there is still a place for traditional gameplay many decades on from when we
first started trading.”

In celebration of their centenary, Gibsons have a special stand design at London Toy Fair 2019. The
stand features a 1920’s inspired archive featuring some original Gibsons’ games next to their
revamped current counterparts.

L’Attaque is launching in April, so make sure you come to Gibsons’ stand (E40) for a first look at the
special 2019 edition.
