Chapter III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter introduces the procedure used in gathering and interpreting the data

of this research. This includes the research design, research locale, population and

sampling and data gathering procedures.

Locale of the Study

The study covers all the Senior High School of Southern Luzon State University

Laboratory Schools. It will be conducted on Senior High Schools for they are in their

right age and also the highest possibility of involvement in pre-marital sex, at ages 15-24.

(Dimas & De Chavez, 2018).

The research study will be conducted at the First Semester of the School Year 2019-2020.

Research Design

In able to conduct this research and give information, the researchers will use the

mixed method of research. In these method of conducting, the researchers can integrate

and provide more facts than either of each alone. Quantitative can give close-ended

information. But with qualitative method, the research can gain depth of understanding.

Table 1 shows the population of the respondents. It reveals that Senior High

School students has a total number of 223. All of them are considered as respondents for

they are all Senior High School except the 3 researcher who are conducting this research

to avoid biases.

Data Gathering Procedures

22

The researcher requested the endorsement of the research instructor, Senior High

School Coordinator and the Principal of the Southern Luzon State University Laboratory

Schools.

After their approval, the researchers will gather data by the use of questionnaires

containing quantitative and qualitative questions. The quantitative questions will be

computed statistically to get the mean. The qualitative questions will be rewritten, and the

researchers will implicate by using such categories.

Instrumentation

After reading and studying samples of questionnaire from related studies, the

researchers prepared a modified questionnaire, from the study of Dimas and De Chavez

(2018) guided by their thesis adviser.

The first part contains the demographic profile of the respondents which includes

their sex and age. The second part consists of questions about their perception on pre-

marital sex. The third part wants to know the source where much information about sex is

obtained. The fourth part is an open-ended questions consisting of the students

perception.

Statistical Treatment

To make the study meaningful and useful, statistical treatments were applied.

After the respondents finished answering the questionnaires, the data will be subjected to

a series of statistical procedure and the following statistical tool will be used.

Weighted mean and frequency distribution were used to reveal the perception of

the Senior High School students on pre-marital sex.

The formula is:

23

4 f +3 f +2 f + f
WM=
N

Where:

WM = weighted mean

F= Frequency

N= Number of Respondents

And to verbally describe the computed weighted arithmetic mean, the scale below

will be used.

For Significant relationship of Demographic Profile and Perception

Null hypothesis (Ho): There is no significant relationship between profile and
perception of the respondents.
Alternative hypothesis (Ha): There is a significant relationship between profile
and perception of the respondents.
Decision Rule: lf p-value<0.05, we reject the null hypothesis. (5% level of
significance)

For Significant Relationship between profile and source of information of

respondents.

Null hypothesis (Ho): There is no significant relationship between profile and

source of information of the respondents.
Alternative hypothesis (Ha): There is a significant relationship between profile
and source of information of the respondents.
Decision Rule: lf p-value<0.05, we reject the null hypothesis. (5% level of
significance)
