Duterte makes education free in Philippines' state universities

Education plays a significant role in our society. Through education, human become more
fruitful, knowledgeable, functional and valuable individual to the society. Hence having
education would not only help the country but also yourself and family too, people and it
something worth keeping and sacrificing. Just like what I always believed “If you have an
education yourself. You would know that the true essence of education is timeliness. It is
something that endures through changing condition, like a rock standing firmly and squarely in
the middle of ranging torrent”.
As Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte speaks during the 113th Founding Anniversary of the
Bureau of Internal Revenue in metropolitan Manila on August 2, 2017. A presidential aide said
on August 4 that the president had decided to make education free at all state universities.
Free higher education act is Republic Act 10931. RA 10931, or Universal Access to Quality
Tertiary Education, ensures government full subsidy to students who intend to earn tertiary or
technical-vocational education.
President Rodrigo Duterte made his major turn in the system of education in the country which
evidently magnetized the interest and eagerness of the community to engage in higher education
and continue rendezvous towards their dreams. This great opportunity provoked the escaping
motivation of the poorest people to access quality free higher education. Above all this kind of
legacy would certainly marked on the mindset of the country and the education itself.
And for me, as an educator and shaper of the student’s future, I should also take my part to the
very best of my abilities. Along with the free tertiary program of the President Duterte, I myself
should provide avenue for my students to learn and to exercise their privilege. And most
important is to shape them into responsible citizen of our nation for them to be able to fulfil their
role in the society and repay the favor that has given to them by living fairly and helping other
people to help promote peaceful and friendly society.
Therefore, I could tell that the legacy of President Rodrigo Duterte of providing free access to
higher education is something that brought hope to the millions of Filipinos who wished to
continue their education in tertiary without minding of charges that will cost to them. Moreover
it will pull up the chances of reducing out of school youth since there is Alternative Learning
System that will bridged them to be qualified enrollees of tertiary education.
And finally, it is best for everyone to keep in mind that our education is the only thing that one
cannot steal and perish until the last day of our lives.
