    Imagine that I am the President of a rich Investment Company that is looking for breakthrough products

    that we can develop and manufacture. As our product design teams, you are tasked to accomplish the
    following:

    1. Among your team (3-5 members), brainstorm for a product that will meet our three main
    characteristics:
    a. Unique – something that is new, maybe a new material, a new manufacturing process
    or a completely new product. Browse on your sci-fi films as well as science investigatory
    projects around the world for products/materials/process that are not yet
    commercialized.
    b. Trendy – this means that the product should be marketable to greater public, something
    that you will buy. Check on what’s hot today – wearable technology, social media,
    organic, wellness etc.
    c. Green – this doesn’t limit you on recycling and solid waste management. Green may
    mean that your product should not hurt our nature, encourages sustainability of natural
    resources and utilize renewable energy.
    2. Explain why you choose your product based on the three characteristics and its value to the
    customer. Discuss product features and specifications, include pictures
    a. Function of product/service
    b. Cost/profit
    c. Quality
    d. Appearance
    e. legal, ethical and environmental issues.
    f. Ease of production/assembly
    g. Ease of maintenance/service (if applicable)
    3. Discuss your Design strategy – Degree of newness, standardization, robustness of design,
    reliability etc.
    4. You have 2 deliverables:
    a. Write-up – You are required to have write up, in short bond paper). You can do your
    own format, just make sure that it includes all the elements I discussed above. Creativity
    will be part of your grade.
    b. Vlog – do a 5 minute video clip featuring your product and how you intend to launch to
    mass market.

    Grading Criteria:

    Creativity and Innovation – Is your product unique, trendy and green? 30pts

    Content – Did you discuss the product features and design strategy based on the book? 50pts

    Presentation – formatting, design, clear and concise discussion 20 pts
