Pressing Traps: Passive Press

Pressing can be roughly divided into two types 1) a passive press and 2) an active press.

Both can be effective ways to force or steer the opposition into a certain part of the pitch to win the ball
from them. In part 1 we will discuss the passive press.

The Passive Press can be thought of as a trap in which the opposition are provoked into playing the ball
into a certain part of the pitch - in our example, into the centre of the pitch.

Passes can be encouraged into a certain area of the pitch by leaving an opposition player space
intentionally where the ball should be played.⠀

As soon as the ball is played into this area the target opposition player should be doubled up on and the
goal is to use the temporary numerical superiority to win the ball.
