1. A furnace is fired with coal analyzing 75.6% C and 8.8% ash. If this coal were burned in excess air saturated with
water at 28°C, 1 atm and 85% RH, a stack gas with the following Orsat analysis results: 12.6% CO2, 2.2% CO,
0.7% H2, 5% O2. Calculate:

a) Percent excess air

b) Ultimate analysis of the coal
c) m3 SG (280°C, 750 mmHg) per kg of coal
d) Dew point of the stack gas
Name: _________________________________________

2. The following data were obtained during coal combustion:

Coal: 66.91% C, 4.01% H, 10.08% O, 2.0% N, 15.2% ash, 6.0% M and 1.8% S
Refuse: 8% VCM, 34% FC, 44% ash, 14% H2O
Air: 27°C, 765 torrs, 20% excess
Stack gas: 300°C, 745 torrs, CO:CO2 = 3:20
Determine:

a) % C and % CV lost in refuse

b) Orsat analysis of the stack gas
c) Volume of stack gas in cubic meter per kilogram of coal
