How to Create a Website Using Weebly

I have used Weebly in the past and found it to be intuitive and simple. I used my existing account to
create this new web-based portfolio. Below I will review the steps I took to create this website.

1. I began by logging in to my Weebly account. If you have not created an account before, simple
click to create one.
2. When logged in, I first arrived at my dashboard where I clicked the down arrow at the top left
corner to get a drop down that has a “Add site” button. I clicked to add a new site.
3. My next option was to choose if this was to be a regular website on an online store. I chose a
regular, non-store website.
4. It was then time to choose a theme. They have a range to choose from that all look very nice.
Something I like about Weebly is that their themes are simple, yet not boring. I chose a theme
that nice to look at, it had a bar across the top where page titles would be and had a spot on the
left of that bar where a title could always be.
5. I was then sent to the editor page, where I could begin building the web pages. First, I changed
the title to “Technology Design Portfolio.”
6. I added a text box by selecting it from the left-hand toolbox and dragging it over to where I
wanted it. I used that text box to give a short description of what this website’s purpose was.
7. Then, I created 3 more “standard” pages by selecting “Pages” at the top, then clicking the +
button on the left. Each time I clicked the plus I named each page Print, Graphic, and
Multimedia.
8. I then turned my attention the background images on all my pages. I decided that the common
them would be nutrition and food as that is apart of the curriculum that I teach. Therefore, I
found stock images that Weebly provided that show cased food in some aesthetically pleasing
way; even telling a story beginning with the main produce on the main page, spices on the print
page, herbs on the Graphics page, and the finished meal on the Multimedia page.
9. On the main page I added a section for “Educational Resources” by adding a text box like I did in
step 6.
10. I added an image below that using the same method, dragging and dropping from the tool bar
on the left. I chose to google search for a picture of the American Heart Association logo. I
downloaded it, then uploaded it as a .png file.
11. Once the picture is uploaded, I could click on it and get the option to make the picture a link,
which I did, and I copy and pasted the American Heart Association’s Educational Resource page.
12. I changed the name at the top left of the homepage, usually meant for a business name I
suspect, to my name so it can be seen across all pages.
13. Lastly, I added a “social icons” bar across the bottom, using the drag and drop method again. It
gives the option to attach various contact methods including social media accounts and email. I
chose LinkedIn, my school email, and Google+. I always like seeing various ways to contact a
person as everyone has a preference.
14. The last, last step is publishing the site. There is a “Publish” button at the top that basically
saves all the changes you made to the site and gives you the live link so anyone can go to your
website. There is where I copied the link to my site so that I could share it.
