Assignment 1

Normally, shrimp larvae (nauplii) survive on the yolk reserves that they
inherit from the egg stage. After this stage they just feeds on phytoplankton,
detritus, polychaete, small crustaceans, rotifer or brine shrimp. Whereas adult
shrimp feeds on plant detritus, worms, decaying animal parts such as clams, fish
and snails. We can see that the feeding habit between nauplii and aduit shrimp is
different due to the development of digestive system. Crab larvae (zoea) feeds on
microalgae or phytoplanton, while adult crab feeds on fish, crustaceans, worms,
clams, mussels, snails, sea urchins, sand dollars, barnacles, and algae. This shows
that differences of digestive system and living habit will cause different feeding
habit between zoea and adult crab.
