ONE YEAR POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA

COURSE IN HISTORY OF ART

Department of History of Art, Faculty of Arts has introduced One Year Post – Graduate Diploma
Course in History of Art with effect from the academic Session 2004 – 2005, where 05 seats are
available. The candidate has to deposit fee as per University rules.
As undergraduate degree in Philosophy, Religion, Sanskrit, History and Ancient Indian History
Culture and Archaeology with 50% marks in aggregate is the prerequisite for admission.
The above course will comprise 500 marks distributed over Five papers each paper carrying 100
marks.

PAPER I
ANCIENT INDIAN ARCHITECTURE
Indus city planning, Origin and development of Stupa (with special reference to Sanchi, Amaravati
and Sarnath (Dhamekha), Rock-cut Architecture - Vihara and Chaitya (with special reference to Bhaja,
Karle, Junnar, Ajanta Caves No.9 and 19), Origin and evolution of Temples (with special reference to
Deogarh (Dashavtara), Bodh Gaya (Mahabodhi), Khajuraho (Kandariya Mahadeva), Bhubneswar
(Lingaraja), Mt. Abu (Dilwara), Kanchipuram (Kailashnath), Ellora (Kailash), Tanjore (Brihadishvara)
Halebid (Hoyasaleshwara).
