Abstract

The purpose of this tunnel innovation is to upgrade, increase capacity, enhance scour
protection and improve seismic resilience of the Great Vancouver Water District
Pipelines. The tunnel is 1 km long, 3.5m excavated diameter and 30m below the
ground. Due to the growing demand of water of Metro Vancouver’s customer, water
must be conveyed across the Burrard inlet and Fraser River. The tunnel innovation
can be adopted and constructed in a place with complex geological conditions like
mountainous areas and having high hydrostatic pressure. The innovation sustains the
water demand at the present time and demand of the future.
