QUESTION AND ANSWERS:
Qn.1. ‘Today ,Tommy found a real book!’ wrote Margie in her
diary .Why do you think she called it a ‘real book’? What kind
of a book did Margie herself use?
Ans: Margie called Tommy’s book a ‘real book ’because it was
made of paper and had words printed on it. She herself used
telebooks--books that one could view on a television screen.
Qn.2. The pages of the book were ‘yellow’ and ‘crinkly ’because
it was an old book .(complete the sentence).
Qn.3. Margie hated school because (choose the correct option)
Ans: option (b) the mechanical teacher gave her too many tests.
Qn.4. Do you agree with Tommy when he says that a real book
is a waste because you throw it away after reading it? Give
reasons for your answer.
Ans: No, I do not agree with Tommy when he says that a real
book is a waste. Actually printed books are not a waste. They
can be read by many people over and over again and should be
preserved for future generations.
Qn.5. What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages
of a mechanical school?
Ans: ADVANTAGES
1] Millions of books can be stored in a telebook.
2] Individual learning is possible.
3] Can spend time as per the students convenience.
4] Can get information very fast.
5] No disturbance or wastage of time.
DISADVANTAGES
1] No participation of other activities.
2] No interaction with teachers and other students.
3] Can’t get help if not understood the problem.
4] It’s unhealthy to stay at home to sit in front of computer all
the time. It makes one lazy.
5] No physical exercise.
QN.6. What are the differences between the kind of school
described in Tommy’s book and Margie’s school? What kind of
school do you think Margie likes? Why? Pick out examples
from the story to support your answer.
Ans: The school described in Tommy’s book is a very old school
and Margie’s school is a mechanic school. Margie likes the
school in the book because she felt they had more fun. Lots of
children came together and they could have fun, laughing and
shouting in the school yard, they could sit together in the
classroom, go home together at the end of the day and also help
each other with their homework.
Qn.7. Here are a few statements made by Margie and Tommy in
the story. Read them carefully. What do they tell you about the
characters?
a. ‘Why would anyone write about school?’
This shows that Margie dislikes school.
b. ‘Because it’s not our kind of school, stupid.’
Tommy wants to sound superior and flaunt his knowledge.

c. ‘If you don’t like it, you don’t have to read the book.’
Tommy is irritated.

d. ‘Can I read the book some more with you after school?’
Margie wants to know, she is curious.

e. ‘Maybe’, he said nonchalantly.


Tommy wants to show that he is not interested in or excited
about sharing the book with Margie.
