Aquatic Resource

“Some people love the ocean. Some people fear it. I love, hate it, respect it, cherish it, loathe it,
and frequently curse it. It brings out the best in me and sometimes the worst.” This passage by Roz
Savage emphasize the impact of man’s interaction with nature with its natural resources. Water, either
marine or fresh has become frequently use by all means. With this, Ms. Cagasan’s report on domestic
and global utilization, conservation practices and issues in natural resources specifically on aquatic
resource simply identifies how water becomes the blood to life that makes everything sustainable.
Bodies of water are generally vital not just by humans or industries but of course by our nature as a
whole. It also cited the percentage does every region consumed that experiences increasing pressure
because of the demand of the increasing people. However, recent decades (stated on the report) have
been threatened on the extinction of the fresh or marine species. It is because of the changing bodies of
water that absolutely abused by individuals. Insufficient supply, pollution and vulnerability have been
the major issues stressed by Cagasan. The bigger the population, the higher the demand they need;
vulnerability of the water to pollution is too obvious especially to those who are located on estuaries
(riverside or bays). Saving marine biodiversity laid emphasis to address on how to address the problem
like end subsidies for fishing or reduction of fishing capacity through management frameworks, strong
policies and governance and of course educating people on the effect of their inappropriate deeds and
how to protect those resources.

With these, I believed that the idea of Ms, Cagasans report created an impact not just by some but by all
means. The time she stressed its importance is very timely and relevant especially that the world is
facing issues pertaining on the lack of clean water that brings life to living and non-living things. It helps
individual to really think on what is going on with our natural resources. A lot of people knew nothing
about the status of our ecosystem. They would always thought that it is okay to just use it
inappropriately. Thus, ignorance slowly kills the natural beauty of nature.

Another thing I think impacted us by Ms. Cagnaan’s report is the vulnerability of our marine biodiversity
to pollution through waste or sound or even light that affects species beneath our oceans. Aside from
waste, we never thought that light or sound could be a massive destruction that could harm them.
Obviously, people never knew about it. Doing things they thought right without knowing its effect is like
trusting a person you never know since then. It is most likely that our natural resource gradually
deteriorates through time.

I have found out the points on addressing the issues are very useful. It served as a wake-up call to
individuals who are still in their ignorance in protecting our marine biodiversity. Even I is responsible for
every thing that I would do to our ecosystem. It is really us who saves mother earth from all
devastations she encounter. We should never lose the chance while there is a chance to save. The hope
is in our hands, a hand that is responsible in making things right.

In conclusion, I would strongly recommend Ms. Cagnaans report to people who still care about saving
the next generation from having nothing.
