A mixture contains a number of different materials more or less intimately put together.
The composition of a mixture is variable. It has no unique set of properties, but rather it
possesses the properties of the materials of which it is made.. Each component of the
mixture retains its properties and the same amount of energy that it had before mixing.
These components may be separated by mechanical or physical means.
A homogeneous mixture has component materials with different properties but appear
uniform as they are so intimately put together that individual components are not
recognizable. Their differing parts cannot be distinguished easily butcan be separated
without chemical change.
A heterogeneous mixture has visible differing parts since its components do not have
uniform properties. The componentsare easily separated by mechanical means.
