Future Planning
It is not likely that any of us, in our lifetime, will ever experience anything more important to the future of our church than the
Family for Life Capital Campaign and the resulting addition of the Family Life Center. This capital campaign allows us to
expand our facilities through the construction of the new Family Life Center as we prepare for a more effective ministry and
outreach. The current project will cost us approximately $3.5 million dollars.

Our Family for Life Capital Campaign will be one of the most exciting and challenging endeavors our church has ever at-
tempted. It should be noted that meeting capital needs is not an end unto itself. Through this campaign, the church will be
able to enhance and expand its ministry and better fulfill its mission and goals. The campaign has the potential to positively
affect the ministry and outreach of our church for many years to come.

Our Pastor, Staff, and the Family for Life Capital Campaign Leadership Team are prayerfully putting in place the organiza-
tion to enthusiastically accomplish our goals. Over the next few weeks, we need you to open up your heart each and every
day to the miracle of prayer and listen to what God is saying to us. Please pray specifically for the following:

• Pray for the church and its mission in our community.

• Pray for the Family for Life Capital Campaign to strengthen our church.
• Pray for the Family for Life Capital Campaign to make a difference in your own life.
• Pray for knowledge of God’s will for you and your ability to carry it out.

The ultimate goal of the Family for Life Capital Campaign is to have a stronger, healthier congregation that is deeply com-
mitted to making a difference in the lives of our community. It all starts with prayer. It all starts with YOU! Please remember
that together and with God’s leadership and blessing – WE CAN SUCCEED!

Family for Life Campaign

Every generation has the tremendous responsibility to discern how to engage the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The
decisions of those who’ve gone before us in previous decades have allowed First Baptist Church to experience the Gospel
individually and corporately today. We have been the beneficiaries of their faithfulness. Today, we have the opportunity to
provide a platform for ministry which will make a difference for generations to come. I believe FBC-Murray will continue to
touch the world in the future. However, I also believe that to do so will require a strong, local, vibrant, faith-based community
of believers. What we do here in Murray, KY will have a direct impact on what we can do “there”, around the world. “Oh, may
all who come behind us find us faithful. May the fire of our devotion light their way. May the footprints that we leave, lead
them to believe, and the lives we live inspire them to obey. Oh, may all who come behind us, find us faithful.”

Our Responsibility
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where
thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin
do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your
heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:19-21
Jesus, Sermon on the Mount

Ways To Give
Current Cash or Check Gift: You can give a contribution currently in a single amount at the time of your pledge or on
a date that you specify. A current gift reduces the amount of funds that First Baptist Church will have to borrow and thus
saves interest costs. Checks should be made payable to First Baptist Church of Murray.

Multiple Year Pledge: You may be able to better afford a larger gift if it is spread out over multiple years. You specify
the total amount and the frequency of payment (monthly, quarterly, or annually) and the beginning date of your payments.
You can give electronically at no cost to you or the church through either your bank’s online banking system or by auto-
matic draft from your bank account (ACH-forms available in the church office).

Gifts of Stock, Bonds, Mutual Funds or Other Securities: Gifts of securities that have been held for at least one year
and have appreciated in value have special tax advantages to the donor. You will receive a tax deduction for the
market value of the securities at the gift date and avoid capital gains tax.

Gifts of Real Estate: A transfer of real estate to First Baptist Church will be counted as a charitable contribution for the
donor for the market value at date of gift and taxes on capital gains will be avoided.

Qualified Charitable Deductions from an IRA: Recently passed tax laws permanently provide a tax break for individu-
als aged 70 ½ and older who must take required minimum distributions from their IRA. Up to $100,000 may be distributed
directly to First Baptist Church annually and the amount is not included as taxable income to the donor.

Gifts of Life Insurance: By naming First Baptist Church as a beneficiary of your policy, you can make a significant future
gift to the church.

Bequests by Will: You can make a bequest through your will to provide a gift for First Baptist Church upon your death.
You can make a bequest gift of a specific dollar amount, a specific property, or a percentage of your estate. This type
of gift can be used if you are reluctant to make a commitment to the campaign now because you are uncertain that you
have or will have enough assets for your future needs.

Donors are encouraged to consult with financial, tax, or legal advisors concerning their most beneficial or ap-
propriate way to give. Please call the church office at 270-753-1854 for more information.

Q. What is the purpose of the Family For Life Campaign at First Baptist
Church?
A. Our current Fellowship Hall was a grocery store, and was purchased and renovated in 1973. We
have used the building for 43 years and have spent considerable sums of money in attempting to main-
tain this structure. The basement floods when we have a hard rain and it is in terrible shape. There are two
restrooms on the street floor which are inadequate, and two restrooms (again inadequate) on the upper
floor. The basement is locked and not available for use. The street floor space is used by one Sunday
School class and the upper floor is used by one Sunday School class. A kitchen is located on the street
floor that services our entire congregation and is certainly not attractive nor functional in serving as many
meals as are served at First Baptist Church.

The building currently called the Net Building was originally built in 1924 and was a repair shop. Many
different businesses were located there over the years until December of 2000 when First Baptist Church
purchased the property. We have spent considerable sums of money in maintaining the building. Two
Sunday School classes of university students and young couples meet in that building while the youth use
the building on Wednesday nights. The structure is in terrible shape, the roof leaks, bricks are falling off the
building, the back door does not shut properly, and there is only one restroom in the building.

The purposes of the new Family Life Center include:

• Replacing both the Fellowship Hall and the Net Building to provide an attractive, convenient, and
sanitary certified kitchen and spaces for meals for Wednesday night, meals for international and
university students, meals for our Hispanic ministry, meals for MAGIC, and meals for any other groups
that we feed. The new two story center will also replace needed classrooms and storage spaces
that we lose from replacing Fellowship Hall and the Net Building.

• Providing a facility that will meet the needs of all our members including seniors, middle aged adults,
young adults, university students, youth, and children. The Family Life Center will have a worship center
seating in excess of 160 individuals that can be used by all age groups for speakers, conferences,
special music events, etc. A large welcome center will be available to all age groups for various
special functions, including wedding receptions, baby and bridal showers, and other celebrations.
A large area for activities will be provided that includes basketball, volleyball, badminton, walking
track, area for set up for meals and larger worship services that can seat up to 350 individuals.
Frequently Asked Questions

• Providing a facility that will serve the local area and community in meeting the individual mission
and ministry needs of those unchurched.

• Providing a facility to serve the local area and community by providing an emergency shelter for
individuals during natural disasters. Rooms can be used for sleeping with showers available for use.

• Meeting the vision of our pastor and ministerial staff as they seek God’s will in growing our church
body in all age groups to disciple more individuals to live and spread God’s teachings locally and
internationally.

Q. What is the cost of the new Family Life Center and how will it be paid for?
A. The estimated cost of the new building is approximately $3.5 million. Bids will be received and we will
know the exact cost once bidding has been completed. We will seek a construction loan to build the
facility, and once completed, will convert the construction loan to permanent financing at an interest rate
and time period to be approved by the church. The amount set up as a permanent loan will depend
on the amount of money that we have raised from church members and friends that attend First Baptist
Church. In addition, church bonds may be issued to lower the amount needed as a permanent loan from
the selected financial institution. Of course bonds are also loans and have to be repaid. Our church
body will pay for the Family Life Center, and it will take a significant gift from each of us to raise the needed
total funds of $3.5 million.

Q. How much will I be expected to commit?

A. Your gift is between you and the Lord. It is about Equal Sacrifice, NOT Equal Gifts.

Q. How do I make a commitment and for how long of a time period?

A. Pledge cards will be presented to each member for their prayerful consideration of the amount that
they are willing to give either as a lump sum or over a period of time up to five years.

Please prayerfully consider your contribution and

continue to pray for this project and the future of our church.
