BEOWULF ANALYSIS PART 2

Chapter 1: The Wrath of Grendel

 Characters: Grendel, King Hrothgar

 When night falls, Grendel goes into the Herot,
through the halls, and kills the sleeping
warriors.
 The King is worried about losing more men,
so the herot is closed off for 12 Winters.
 Chapter 2: The Coming of Beowulf

 Characters: Beowulf and his men, King

Hrothgar, The Coast Watcher
 Beowulf arrives from afar and tells the coast
watcher to notify his king that they have
come to slay Grendel.
 When Beowulf tells the king that he has come
to slay Grendel, the king is joyful with relief.
Chapter 3: The Battle With Grendel

 Characters: Grendel, Beowulf, King Hrothgar,

and the kings soldiers.
 Grendel goes into the Herot, looking for a
meal, but instead finds a sleeping soldier
(Beowulf). Beowulf awakes and rips of
Grendels arm.
 Grendel runs away to his lair in terror and
fear.
 Chapter 4: The Monster’s Lair

 Characters: Beowulf and King Hrothgar.

 The Lair is described as, “ A Soulless, deep,
dark, never ending hole,”
 The king tells Beowulf that anyone who has
ventured down to the lake has never
returned.
Chapter 5: The Battle with
Grendel’s Mother
 Beowulf, Grendel and his mother.
 Beowulf dives into the lake, on the way to the
bottom he sees many creatures. Once he
reaches the lair of Grendel and his mother.
The mother comes out and starts slashing
away at Beowulf. After a long grueling fight
he grabs a sword(made by the Giants) off the
wall and cuts off her head with it.
Chapter 6: The Last Battle

 Beowulf and his companions, the dragon.

 King Hrothgar tells Beowulf about a Dragon
the has reign terror over the land for ages and
asks for him to slay it.
 Once Beowulf gets to the entrance to the
dungeon, he screams wildy in excitement and
it awakes the dragon.
 They run into the dungeon and the battle co
menses between the dragon and beowulf.
