1. Piano Sonata no.14 “Moonlight Sonata”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Tr0otuiQuU

Piano Sonata no.14 in C# Minor, Op.27, No.2, are musical piece

composed by Ludwig Van Beethoven, a German greatest composer
and pianist. This piece was completed in 1801 (Classical Period). It was
published as “Sonata Quasi Una Fantasia” but known as Moonlight
Sonata nowadays.

What I like about the piece.

The piece consists 3 movements that did not follow the traditional
movement arrangement in classical period. The 1 st is “Adagio
sostenuto” a slowly Tempo. The 2nd is “Allegretto” which is moderately
fast, and the 3rd movement is ”Presto Agitato” which is played very,
very fast. As we can see, this piece quite unique. It was played with
different Tempo. The key signature also changed from C# minor in 1 st
movement to Db minor in 2 nd movement then change again to C#
minor in 3rd movement. Of course that is in the same pitches, but the
notation are different. The 1st movement are the one we hear a lot
nowadays. The 3rd movement have too many fast arpeggios or broken
chords. Chopin “Fantasie Impromptu” were inspired based on the 3 rd
movement.

Pachelbel's Canon or popularly known as Canon in D are composed by

Johann Pachelbel a German Composer, organist and teacher. Canon in
D are the oldest surviving manuscript copy date from the 19 th century.
This piece are popular during Pachelbel lifetime but after few
centuries it went out of style and remained in obscurity. In 1968, and
arrangement of Canon In D gained popularity and began recorded
in many ensembles. Today, the piece still played and the chord
progression are used in many pop songs.

What I like about the piece.

Actually, this is my first piece I played on the piano. I found it quite

easy because of the chord progression. It uses chord I, V, vi, iii, IV, I, IV,
V progression. It is easy because the progressions are the same from
the beginning till the end of the piece. Canon in D helped me in chord
progression and I can play many pop songs because of this piece.
