A real estate attorney provides legal representation for either a buyer or a seller when a
dispute winds up in a courtroom. The real estate attorney obtains facts from both sides of the
dispute and tries to bring them to a resolution. This means hiring a surveyor or title company to
work through some of the details. Lawyers who specialize in this branch of the legal system
ensure that proper procedures are followed during the acquisition or sale of property. They also
may be concerned with the use of property. Real estate law covers deeds, property taxes, estate
planning, zoning, and titles.

Verbal and written communication skills are needed, it is essential to develop a broad

business law foundation and strong negotiating skills. The real estate market is a web of
relationships. A real estate lawyer should be a capable networker. Like any lawyer, a real estate
lawyer has earned a law degree, which typically takes three years of study for a full-time student
and has to pass the state bar exam administered by the state in California. Training for a
specialization like real estate law may begin with elective courses and internships during law
school and may continue afterward for certification in real estate law.

The Education and salary, for a real estate lawyer is $118,000. Salary depends on the
hourly rate charged and job experience. Working in a large firm or becoming a partner increases
a real estate lawyer’s pay. The education required is to complete a bachelor’s degree Program,
Take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT). California lawyers can meet the legal education
requirement in different ways. Most receive a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from law
schools registered by the State Bar (California-accredited) or approved by the American Bar
Association (ABA). But there are other ways to get a legal education. Earn a Juris Doctor
Degree. A law degree can generally be earned in three years of full-time study, Pass the Bar
Exam, and then begin working as a Lawyer After passing the bar exam, lawyers can practice in
any field of law.
In addition to J.D. degrees, law schools offer Master of Laws (LLM) in Real Estate and
certificates earning a (Certificate or LLM) in real estate to practicing attorneys. Earning a
graduate-level legal degree isn't required, but it could lead to additional career opportunities.
These programs usually consist of courses in commercial real estate, real estate in federal tax law
and real estate finance. Elective courses may cover topics like affordable housing, construction
law, historic preservation law and real estate litigation. You may refer to education requirements
for the state in California in the citation links below.
This career can open doors to new opportunities and serve as a steppingstone to other
careers if you don’t decide to continue practicing law. The skills you'll develop in law school and
as a practicing attorney can serve you well in careers such as legal consulting,
management, writing, mediation, and academia.

I am interested in this career because lawyers are among the highest-paid professionals in
the legal industry, and most attorneys earn salaries well above the national average. The median
annual salary for all lawyers was $120,910 in 2018, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics, but the world’s top attorneys can pull in million-dollar annual incomes. A career as
a lawyer has been a hallmark of prestige for generations. Impressive degrees and a certain
authority over others have placed lawyers in an elite circle of professionals who command
respect and embody the definition of success. I can visualize the lifestyle I want within this
career.
