Answer 1-3

1.

We can see greatness in people by their own purpose. We can see in the movie “captain
Fantastic” their goals in life. To strengthen their survival instinct, to become independent, to have
freedom and to fulfill their mom wish. But what are the consequences if the act is in total isolation to
others. It would be different approaches and eventually create different identity.

The movie celebrates being passions and commitments to self discipline and of truth. Living an
alternative life give us a new way and a new vision of life. It encourage us to live peacefully without
politics and systematic education. However, we know that a free life set by society does not always
allow a total absence of rules or a total isolation of social life. Afterall Ben and his family are part of
society, they can’t help the fact that there will come a time where they will re- interact with people and
they might be experience culture shock because of the standard of the society. But the advantage is that
they are trained physically and mentally by their father who is the fantastic in this movie. And
sometimes we realize that being fantastic isn’t fantastic at all but we shall move forward, go all around
into the reality and not only to the other side of the story.

2.

Freedom! Independent! And Survivalism! It is the three points which I saw in the movie
“Captain Fantastic” wherein it represent our longing in this world that is actually, it is already in our
lives but some people take it away from us.

Those three key from this fantastic captain is really has an interconnection about
responsibility. Firstly, freedom, Ben seem taught them everything except how to lead a normal life in a
true world that exist. He take freedom from his children to explore the outside world, the oppurtunity to
connect with other people with their ideas and their lives. Imagine His oldest son Bo knows to respect
women but does not know that it is not socially acceptable to propose marriage right after you kiss. In a
restaurant, the youngest think that the fat people are sick, cola as a poison water and cheeseburger as a
forbidden fruit. His wife Leslie suffered from extreme depression and force to take in the hospital even
if it is against in our will. It shows that they are not equipped to address the life outside. Secondly,
independent in which it defines in the movie was a total isolation within family. It can restrict personal
development because of firm discipline, it can create border in the reality and being stuck in the
process. Lastly, survivalism wherein Ben does not believe in idea of schools and other organization.
There are so many limitation of Ben’s way of life, there are challenges and dilemma but we can’t blame
him if that is his belief.
‘It is a beautiful mistake. But a mistake’ this phrase intrigues me the most because Ben knew
exactly that there is more to life. And sometimes what we need is to compromise to the things that is
more valuable for personal development but stay intact with our identity to open our minds to a wider
view of things under the sun.

They say that being a father is one of the most hardest role in a family. A captain in a house and
a driver for a journey. Sometimes being a captain needs a member, needs a friend who will give advice
whenever they are in a situation that he himself can’t take. But what if all of a sudden, the one he
considered a hope beareved hope and eventually die? What a full take responsibility it is for him but he
will do it anyway for the sake of his children.

The movie “Captain Fantastic” show us Ben who is a father, know how it feels to take full
responsibility as a father. It shows us how Ben choose to raise his family in the forest far from a city and
to the people. He entrust self sufficiency in nature without being dependent on larger society. One thing
that I can see from a movie is a tagline “ He dislike any group system larger than the family unit”
because it represent family value. He also values self education, teaching them a survivalist skills with
physical and mental training as well as academic like politics and philisophy. Educate them to think
critically and logically without the help of technology. we can never blame him for his beliefs about life
because when we are talking about value, it is ironic like truth, meaning what is true for you might not
be true for me, and what is true for me might not necessary true for you. Our personal values and
beliefs may not be considered moral but in sense it is good because it is a “value” behind our purposeful
action. It is important to live in our value like what Ben did to his family but I hope that we do
compromise when we needed to. Compromise to much better purpose, better vision and better version
of ourselves.
