Vodafone Business Heat Detection – User Guide

1. Introduction
Vodafone Business Heat Detection utilises leading edge thermal imaging technology
combined with Vodafone’s IoT network to help you screen individuals for a potential elevated
skin surface temperature. This can be done on-site or remotely using the Vodafone Business
Surveillance platform. The thermal camera can be configured to alert a user when a specific
threshold is exceeded and allows a user to remote stream a device on demand to the
desktop, tablet or mobile applications. The VBS architecture allows for the transmission of
near-zero latency video from encoders to multiple viewing clients.

4. Operational Use
4.1 Overview
The following section details the interaction required with both the Laptop and deployed remote viewing
platforms (such as an iPad) for the various applications required to operational deploy the VBHD System; it
consists of the following software’s:

• Elevated Temperature Screening (ETS) Software – The thermal app running on the laptop. This has
lots of inbuilt features (like High temperature alerts) to be able to use the kit as a stand-alone unit on
top of the remote feature.

• EdgeVis Gateway – This application must be running in order to stream footage to the encoder. The
application allows you to select a specific part of the screen to record and transmit.

• Vodafone Business Surveillance Client Applications – These applications are available on Windows
desktop and iOS & Android. The applications allow you to access alerts and footage remotely when
you have been given the correct permissions on the server.

Note: The advantage that ETS app has over EdgeVis Gateway is the ETS allows you extend the region
to reduce the chance of missed frames if the software is being used locally at the same time.

4.2 Local Viewing Capability

The local viewing capability allows the local operation and detection of objects from a 2 to 5 metre range.
A local operator is deployed at the front end with the equipment providing a first layer mechanism of
viewing and alerting. The local viewing equipment consists of:
• Camera13.
• Equipment Enclosure.
• Local Viewing Laptop running the Elevated Temperature Screening Software.
• Blackbody Temperature Sensor14.
• Transportable Equipment Platform / Housing.
Please note that if a person is detected within less than 2 metres, this will result in very high temperature
readings and thus triggering false positives, so it is advisable to close off the area from people at 2 metres.

4.3 Elevated Temperature Screening Software15

The Elevated Temperature Screening (ETS) application is used to measure the skin surface temperature
using the live thermal video feed.

Note:
Please do not change anything in the RPI file or the Parameter control (Available only in Admin mode
under File tab) unless told to do so by a support agent.
Grab Screen and Test EV features cannot be accessed due to security reasons.

13 For Ultra, it’ll be a Single head (Thermal) camera, and for UltraDuo it’ll be a Dual head (Thermal and Daylight) Camera
14 Applicable only for UltraDuo
15 If your kit does not include ETS application, please refer the Intelligent Screenings Knowledge base article.

C1 – Public Page 34
Desktop Client Mobile Client
Vodafone Business Heat Detection – User Guide

To log in to Vodafone Business Surveillance Server:

1. Click the Add a System button. This will start a wizard that will allow the appropriate settings to
be entered, checking that the details entered are valid after each step.

2. Enter the address of the Vodafone Business Surveillance Server. It is also possible to disable
encryption while communicating with the server.
Server: surveillanceserver.iot.vodafone.com

3. Next. Vodafone Business Surveillance Client will then validate the

entered address and attempt to contact the server.

4. If successful the client will then prompt for the user login details.
Enter the details provided by the administrator, who must have
already created the account. After entering the login details
Vodafone Business Surveillance Client will verify that they are
correct.

5. 2FA is enabled as a mandatory authentication option for all user

accounts. For the first-time login process, user account needs to linked to
a TOTP (Time-based One-time Passwords) generator app. Google
Authenticator is suitable for iOS/Android/windows and is a
recommended authenticator app, but most standard 2FA apps can be
used. User will be presented with a QR code to scan and then asked to
enter a 6-digit pin from TOTP generator app. On mobile devices users will
be given an option to generate the QA code by sending a web link to another device. On successful
2FA setup completion, backup codes can be download as an alternative method for login. For
subsequent login, enter the 6-digit code form the TOTP generator app. For a user who has lost
access to Google Authenticator, they would need to log in to Vodafone Business Surveillance Server
to reset their 2FA configuration recovery code. Alternatively, they can also use backup code option
to login, if they have access to the back-up codes generator at the time of 2FA setup process. Once
verified, they will be warned they have X codes left. They will be offered the option of ‘I’ve lost access
to my 2FA device’ where they can reset their registered 2FA device. By contacting Vodafone support
desk, administrators will be able to reset 2FA enrolment, if you are a standard user, you can contact
your business administrator. For more detailed information on 2FA setup, please refer to 2FA
Knowledge Base Article.

6. If encryption is enabled the next step will be to verify the server's

public (and unique) encryption fingerprint. This check is to verify
that the Vodafone Business Surveillance Client is communicating
with is the correct server, and not an imposter. If the fingerprint
matches and names Vodafone, select Allow. Vodafone Business Surveillance Client will validate
the fingerprint every time the user connects to the server and warn if it ever changes.

7. If the Administrator has allowed, the client will prompt to save the
password. Select Yes to save the password. If No is selected, the
client will prompt for the password every time the server is

originated by the recipient Government or as required by the recipient Government's National Security
regulations. This information may be disclosed only within the organisation of the recipient establishment,

US Customer Statement
1. The intended use of the product. FDA’s enforcement policy guidance suggests; “initial body
temperature measurement for triage use.”
2. The measurement should not be solely or primarily relied upon to diagnose or exclude a diagnosis of
COVID-19, or any other disease
3. The device is not FDA-cleared or approved for medical diagnosis of illness or symptoms of illness.
4. The elevated body temperature in the context of use should be confirmed with secondary evaluation
methods (e.g., a non-contact infrared thermometer (NCIT) or clinical grade contact thermometer).
Public health officials, through their experience with the device in the particular environment of use,
should determine the significance of any fever or elevated temperature based on the skin
telethermographic temperature measurement;
5. The technology should be used to measure only one subject’s temperature at a time; and
6. Visible thermal patterns are only intended for locating the points from which to extract the thermal
measurement.

Extra Conditions of Use

1. The country the solution is being deployed in must have undergone legal, regulatory, data privacy
and network checks by Vodafone.
2. Heat Detection is not a medical grade diagnosis tool or device and only detect skin surface
temperature, not fevers. There are many underlying medical reasons for someone being hot
enough to trigger the alert that have nothing to do with COVID-19.
3. We promote this as an indoor product only (outside temperature makes the reading highly
questionable due to fluctuation in temperature).
4. We do not offer facial recognition as an option with this camera or solution
5. Customers have an obligation to comply with local data privacy and other laws, particularly if they
are storing personal images for any purposes.
6. Customers must prominently display signs at the building or area entrance alerting people that
cameras are detecting body temperature, so individuals can make an informed choice whether to
enter the building or not
7. Organisations will need to support Entry Barrier staff and receptionists in having sensitive
conversations with individuals that have been identified as having elevated skin surface
temperature. You need to carefully assess and train your teams on the appropriate steps to be
taken in the event a heat detection alert is triggered.
8. This solution does not replace the need for a medical test for COVID-19 or any other disease. It
is the first step in identifying whether an employee is potentially carrying the virus and not a
diagnosis. The outcome of the heat detection should be further confirmed using secondary,
standard clinical evaluation methods.
