What is asphyxia neonatorum?

Asphyxia neonatorum is a condition that occurs


when a baby doesn’t get enough oxygen during
the birth process

It can be fatal. Another more common name


for it is perinatal asphyxia, or birth asphyxia
How to recognize asphyxia neonatorum
Baby that appears pale or blue (cyanose) after
birth

Difficulty breathing, nasal flaring, abdominal


breathing

Slow heart rate

Weak muscle tone
