Objetivos de la leccion

El objetivo de este ejercicio, es aprender el uso correcto de “Future in the past”, el cual

sirve, para expresar, ideas que teniamos en el pasado, sobre lo que podria suceder en un futuro,

sin importar, si esto estaba en lo correcto o no.

En este escrito, se mostrara tanto las reglas gramaticales utilizadas, asi como ejemplos de las

mismas.

Future in the past: was/were going to and would

Was/ were going to is the past form of the going to. It`s used to express or ask about future

plans or expectations someone had in the past. It is often used for plans that charged or weren´t

achived.

I was going to get married (but i didn´t)

Was she going to take the course?

They where going to study art (but they didn´t)

Were you going to study with Dr. Mellon?

Weren´t you going to study law? (yes i was/ NO, i was´nt.)

Where were they going to work? (in Kaula Lumpur.)

Who was going to teach this class? (My sister was.)

Would is the past form of will. It can also express future in the past. Use would + the base

form in a noun clause direct object that describes future plans or expectations.
She bought she would be a doctor (but she changed her mind).

We always belived they would get married (but they never did).

They said they would pay for their daughter´s studies (but they didn´t).

Note: noun clause direct objects can also use was/were going to + the baseform.

They said they were going to arrive before noon (but they didn´t).

1.- Laura tought / be / a doctor but…


Laura thought she would be a doctor, but she didn´t pass the exam

2.- I thought / become an astronaut but…

I throught i would become an astronaut, but i never did it

3.- We were sure / Bill and stella / get a divorce, but…

We were sure bill and stella would get a divorce, but they changed their mind

3.- Joe wanted / a writer but…

Joe wanted to be a writer, but his tasted changed

Explain a change in life and work plans

Write some life, study or work plans you had in the past, but wich you changed you mind about.

Write the reasons for the changes, using the vocabulary or other reasons.

1.- Life plans:

I wanted to live, but i changed my mind.

2.- Study plans:

I thought i would be a doctor, but my tastes changed.

3.- Work plans:

I wanted to work in gameloft, but i never did it
