“I am Malala Yousafzai, and I am one of the women”

We might have known a few who can brave and question the current political or social system
and rise up against any anomalies and controversies. Yet, we consider it a rare truth that young
women, particularly in their teenage years, are able to valiantly stand up against the wrong
political and social system as set by the Taliban rule.

It would have been a great honor to meet Malala Yousafzai, a 16 year old Pakistani student,
blogger, and a social activist who has dared challenged the unacceptable regulations strictly
imposed by the Taliban rule against women in their society. YetHowever, despite the odds, she
has been known to continually fight for the rights of the Pakistani women as she bravely
narrates in her blog how difficult it is for a woman to be granted with quality education that
should have been a basic right of every individual, men or and women alike.

Even at a young age of 12, she was able to empower not only the women, but also the general
public as well as she shared her views on how the Talibans were attempting to gain control and
power over the Swat Valley where she was residing in. The said crisis present in their society
had deeply affected the young teenager that she would passionately write about how the life of
women is being limited in terms of freedom under the Taliban rule. It has instilled fury and fire
in the media as they were able to discover a young child with that innocent influence to
empower the economically and socially challenged women in every walks of life to fight for
their freedom and become a beacon of hope to other women who might have been in a
situation far worse than them.

Despite the unjustifiable assassination attempt made on the young activist pupil, her strong
identity as a young student activist hailing from the most underdeveloped countries has been
awarded with utmost recognition and reverence by having been awarded with the National
Youth Peace Prize in 2011 and the Simone de Beauvoir Prize in 2013.
