Emily Grierson claimed that he loved Homer Baron very much.

However, despite having said

this, she was still able to kill him. I believe that this gruesome act was committed by her because of
multiple reasons. First is because of what his father had done in the past. He would always send away
Emily’s suitors because to him, they were not good enough for her. He is basically the reason why Emily
is still unmarried even with her age. Next is how the town perceived Homer and Emily’s relationship.
Most of the people especially the old ones were against it. To them, Emily is a monument and therefore
should stay untouched. What makes it worse for them is that Homer is a Yankee. They can’t let a woman
from the upper class marry someone from the lower class so they tried to separate them. Last but not
least is Emily’s desperation to have someone to be with her. Being an unmarried woman and having no
family, she was completely alone in her life. She was overcome by loneliness and the grief of losing her
father just added to it. When she found out that Homer might be homosexual and was not the marrying
type, it completely crushed her and realized that the only way that she could finally have a husband is to
kill Homer. All of these reasons just piled up which finally led her to murder Homer Baron.
