Q1. (a)What do you understand by the term diversity?
(b) How does diversity enrich our lives?
Ans: (a) Diversity is the state of being varied or the state of being different from one another.
We find people around us who are different from each other in many ways.
(b) (i) Diversity enriches our lives significantly. It is an integral part of our lives.
(ii) It teaches us to be tolerant and helps us respect people who have different religious
beliefs, social customs etc.
Q2. Why is India called the Land of ‘unity in diversity’?
Ans: Diversity in India exists in the form of culture, tradition, caste, community, religion,
language etc. Yet we can find the intermingling of different cultures and ways of life leading
to Unity in Diversity. Hence India is called the land of “Unity in Diversity”.
Q3. What do you mean by economic differences?
Ans: (i) Differences in wealth creates economic differences making some people rich and
some people poor.
(ii) The difference in the income level leads to inequality and affects people in many ways-
from meeting their basic needs to having access to medical facilities, education etc.
