EPISTLE OF JAMES

Main Teachings:
By: Hardy Allen Villarosa

 When we ask in faith, God gives liberally.

(James 1:5-6)

James taught us in these passages that the heavens are not sealed, that God will reveal
answers to those of any generation who ask Him in faith, including us today.

 Patient endurance eventually leads to perfection.

(James 1:2-4; 5:7-11)

The practical nature of this epistle is evident in the opening verses. James wrote that
when faith is tested or tried through difficulties, patience is produced. This patience,
which leads to sanctification and spiritual development, is a necessary attribute for all
who seek blessings in life.

 Faith requires action.

(James 1:3-8, 21-25; 2:14-26; 4:17)

James was not teaching that faith has no saving power; he was teaching that a passive
belief that resulted in no action was not true, saving faith, When James challenged his
readers to “shew me thy faith without thy works” (James 2:18), he was pointing out that
it is not possible to show one’s actions – true faith cannot exist apart from righteous
works.

 As disciples of Jesus Christ, we should love all people, regardless of their

circumstances.
(James 2:1-9)

James warned us through this passage specifically against favoring the rich and despising
the poor, but his warning can apply to any biases or prejudices we may have toward
others.

 The words we use have the power to hurt or bless others. “Speak not evil one of
another.”
(James 3; 4:11-12)

Among the rich imagery James used throughout his epistle, some of his most vivid
language is found in his counsel about language.
