Inservice Inspection of Nuclear Power Plants

1
Inservice Inspection (ISI)

• Why is ISI required?

• Identify changes from baseline
(degradation)
• Flaw growth

November 29, 2016 ASME Section XI 3

Inservice Inspection of Nuclear Power Plants

Purpose of ISI
• From 1968 Draft Section XI
– Review of indications that show potential signs of
distress
– Relate the condition to the service requirements to
which the component is subjected.
– For the case where the review shows that no changes
have occurred, disposition would require nothing
further.
– For the case where the evaluation shows potential
signs of distress, but the condition meets the original
acceptance standards, disposition may require
nothing more than examination of an additional
number of components or like areas.
