Career Readiness Reflection

1. What are some ways that you can best prepare for your first day in a new workplace? If
you are already working, reflect on what your first day was like and discuss one thing that
you would improve to make your first day more successful.
You can make sure you have everything you need prepared the day before. You should also
make sure you know how to do everything you are required to do at your job. You should
also make sure to leave early the first day so you’re not late.

2. Which form of payment would you most like to receive in your job- wage, salary, or
commission? Discuss the pros and cons of this type of payment and why you prefer this
form over the others.
I would prefer to have a wage as my form of payment. I think a wage is best because being
paid by the amount of hours you work seems the most fair. You can pretty much calculate
how much you will be making if you know all your hours and I think that would be helpful.

3. Review the seven qualities that are desirable in an employee. Select two qualities that
you feel are strengths and two qualities that you feel need improvement. Provide
examples to support why these are strengths and discuss actions you plan to take to
improve.
Two qualities that I think are my strengths are cooperativeness and being malleable. I chose
cooperativeness because I am willing to do whatever and work with whoever to get the job
done. I chose malleable because I am good at following directions and doing what I’m told.
Two qualities I need to work on are loyalty and initiative.

4. Describe a time when you had to deal with conflict. How did you handle the situation?
Discuss one thing you would improve to handle the situation better.

5. Why is safety on the job important? What ways do you stay safe in your everyday life and
how can you increase your level of safety at school, work, and at home?
Safety on the job is very important because having a safe workplace is necessary for you to
be able to focus on your job and getting your work done.

6. What plan do you have for becoming a lifelong learner? How do you plan to keep your
skills current so you can remain relevant to employers?
My plan is to continue practicing skills I already have and try to learn as many new ones as I
can and try to gain as much knowledge as I can.
