Career Research Essay

One career I have been interested in for a while is being a real estate sales

agent. In this career you help clients buy, sell, or rent property. Real estate agents also

do things like study property listings to find the best ones, accompany clients to property

sites, and discuss the conditions of the property with clients. They also do things like

prepare documents, coordinate property closings, oversee documents that are being

signed, and arrange meetings between buyers and sellers.

Some skills and abilities that are good to have in this career are knowledge of the

purchase process, knowledge of the real estate market, and communication and

negotiation skills. Some home buyers and sellers say that they value when real estate

agents show honesty and integrity as well as responsiveness. It is also important to

note that dealing with more luxurious properties requires more skill and effort. It can be

pretty hard to sell properties that are really expensive because people don’t want to give

up that much money too quickly so you must be willing to patiently search for the right

client. It can also be very helpful to have knowledge of the area you are an agent in.

You can use your knowledge of the local community to connect with a client on a

deeper level.

To become a real estate agent, you must either have your high school diploma or

have completed a real estate training program. There are also some college courses

you can complete instead of completing a real estate program. There are usually

multiple locations for real estate training in most places and it can even be done online.

The average salary of a real estate agent in California is around 45K-72k but it is
possible to make a lot more than that. The main ways to make more money in real

estate are being one of the top agents in the area, making as many sales as you can,

and working with more expensive properties. When you sell a property that is more

expensive you get a larger percentage than selling a property that isn’t worth very

much. Some benefits of being a real estate agent are that you can choose your own

schedule and there is an unlimited income potential.

Some other careers that are similar to being a real estate agent are property and

real estate managers and appraisers. Real estate and property managers are similar to

real estate agents because they also try to sell properties under certain conditions like

when vacancies occur. Real estate managers may advertise the property or hire a

leasing agent to find a tenant but it is not their main job to sell properties. Appraisers are

somewhat similar to real estate agents because they also work with properties but their

job is quite a bit different. Appraisers go to properties and determine the current value of

it. Real estate is a field that is still in demand because there isn’t anything to replace

real estate agents yet and it doesn’t seem like there will be anytime soon.

I think I would be successful as a real estate agent because I think I have most of

the skills needed to do well in real estate. I don’t have too much experience selling

things to people but the times I did I think I did a good job. I think my personality would

work well in this field because I have good communication skills with people. Another

reason that I think I would do good in this career is that I am good at pointing out the

positive things instead of negatives and that would be good when discussing properties

with clients because it would get them thinking about why they would want to buy the
property instead of why they wouldn’t. I believe I would do a good job in this career

because I think I would really enjoy it and I am willing to work a lot harder when I

actually enjoy what I’m doing.
