Outline the Methodology/Experimental Design: Due to lack of experimental
facilities, this research work is basically concerned with the development of a numerical tool to investigate the hydrodynamic interaction phenomena. The methodology will follow the following steps: a. Develop a computer code that will be able to discretize the wetted surface of freely floating 3D box-shaped bodies into identical as well non-identical panel arrangements. b. Develop mathematical formulations based on three-dimensional source distribution technique for the solution of the linearised velocity potential problem, assuming fluid to be inviscid, homogeneous, irrotational and incompressible. During the development of the formulations necessary boundary conditions for multi-body problem will be included. a. Develop a computer code based upon the mathematical formulations that will be able to compute the followings: i) hydrodynamic reaction force and moments, expressed as added mass and damping coefficients due to the fluid-body interaction. ii) first order wave exciting forces and moments including the diffraction effects of the wave on the body. iii) response amplitude and phase operators that can be obtained from the linearised set of equations of motion, where the first order wave exciting forces and moments together with the added mass and damping coefficients will be used. b. Validate the computer code by comparing present results with published results for multiple floating body problem. c. Obtain the output for the variation of different parameters as panel arrangements on the wetted surface of the bodies, size of the bodies, no. and arrangement of bodies, gap between the bodies and wave heading angle. d. Present the output of the computer code as tabular and graphical form to illustrate the effect of hydrodynamic interaction.
