Problem 1. A block of mass m = 50 kg is connected by a string tied to the ceiling hook and reclines on a tilted
frictionless surface as shown. Knowing that α = 25º and β = 40º, determine (a) the force in the string,
(b) the reaction from the tilted surface.

Problem 2. Collar A of mass m = 100 kg is connected by rod AB and confined to a horizontal frictionless shaft
laying in the xy-plane and running parallel to the y-axis. If a force Q = 2000 N is applied to collar A in
the negative y-direction as shown, determine (a) the force in the rod AB, (b) the components of the
force exerted by shaft on the collar.
