Answer: According to Sinar Harian, that is the statement stated that although science and medicine

have so much of advance but is common in our community to belief traditional faith to blame

everything on the jins. In addition, Islamic Renaissance Front chairman and director Dr Ahmad Farouk

Musa told that such an ‘achievement’ is going to be an “object of ridicule by the international

scientific community”. He also stated that things become more complicated when the so-called

‘academics’ give credence to such ‘unscientific’ and ‘anachronistic’ ideas ( Sinar Harian,2015).Based on

this, we can clarify that some people think that use of anti-hysteria kit never bring any positive

significant to the community .In other hand, the public university’s Islamic centre and human

development director Dr Mahayuddin Ismail told local daily News Straits Times (NST) claim that the

anti- hysteria kit based on the experiments on 50 cases showed its efficacy .He also stated that they

have a proven track record and it shows that anti-hysteria kit can provide relief to the hysteria

patient. Moreover, he declare that anti-hysteria kit been used commonly in Kedah to help the

student that suffer hysteria due to the stress. He also mention that anti-hysteria is a syariah –

compliant and thy can provide the expertise to help the person to recover ( News Straits Times ,May

2015 ).Based on this clarification, we can estimate that there are positive significant of anti-hysteria

kit also to community because they it can cure the hysteria and they have prove about it.

Answer : From my opinion, I would not agree with the use of the anti-hysteria kit that mentioned

because that is not anything supernatural about this issue and it is not a spirit that causes this

problems. Other than that, there are many questions that can comes to our mind such as is this anti-

hysteria kit will be work for non-muslims because they are counting it as Islamic .If is doesn’t work for

non-muslims so what will be the rational for they selling this anti-hysteria kit?? Expanding further,

based on psychology we can also say that hysteria can happen due to many situations such as

depression, anxiety and often can be accompanied by nervous behavior so anti-hysteria kit cannot be

useful for all the time. In psychology, hysteria could be happen because of hallucinations ,nervousness

or some disorders such as psychological disorder brain disorder and physical disorder that the person

going through so we cannot blame that hysteria happen because of evil spirits. In an opinion of

published by The Star Dr Shaikh Mohd Saifuddeen ShaikhMohd Salleh from the Institute of Islamic

Understanding Malaysia’s (IKIM) Centre for Science and Environment Studies pointed out that Malay-

Muslim community could not differentiate between animistic concepts of evil spirits and modern

psychiatrist about the hysteria ( The Star2015). Besides that, the price of the anti-hysteria kit are very

expensive and not affordable for university student and the anti-hysteria kit just compromising

everyday items that we used such as chopsticks, salt, lime ,vinegar ,pepper spray and formic acid that

claims can ward off evil spirits .Although there are proves that show the efficacy but not all people

who have hysteria can be cured buy using the anti-hysteria kit. In addition, anti-hysteria kit will also

confusing the society because from past years they never have or heard about this thing. The past

years when someone get infected by hysteria thy will immediately call the bomoh to chased the spirit

away and until now the Malay culture still having believing in bomoh so thy wont will easily belief the

use of anti-hysteria kit and it will be confusing them as well. Basically, in my opinion anti-hysteria kit

maybe will be useful for those who belief in traditional medicines which only treats only the

symptoms but not the causes of the illness. I also understand that many cultures still have their own

criteria and treatment for dealing with this hysteria like psychology belief that hysteria is a

psychological disorder while some cultures belief it as a evil spirits.
